Advice on how to host a poker tournament in your home. Rules, blinds, timers, and information on how to build a poker table. Create your own blinds schedules, print poker rulebooks, calculate the number of poker chips needed for your tournament.

This is the T1000 blinds schedule that is recommended on this website. T1000 means that 1000 chips are issued to each player at the start of the tournament. This is a good general-purpose  blinds schedule that should make your tournament last about 4 to 5 hours. The first big blind is 1/50 of the starting chip amount but the blinds rise very slowly for the first four levels. I allow rebuys during the first 3 levels. I take a meal break after the 3rd level. I do a color-up during the meal break and then do another color-up during a break later in the tournament.

Here are the poker chip distributions that I use.
Here is the printable blinds poster that I hang on the wall.
Here is a copy of the printable poker rule book that I use.
Here is a free blinds timer that you can use to time your poker tournament.

Please use this  poker tournament format if you have never hosted a tournament before. This is a proven  format, and most of the members in this forum can assist you if you have questions.

I am currently organizing a tournament that consist of 12 players.  If I were to follow & implement your blind structure and chip distribution, how long would this tournament last?  I am looking for a T10,000 NLHE that would only last 3-5 hours.  Please make a recommendation........I would really appreciate any advice that you can give to me......

With 12 players, there will be 120,000 chips in play. 4% of 120,000 is 4,800. So the BB will be approximently 4,800 when the game ends. That will be 11 blind levels and 1 color-up before Level 8 (you won't need 100's from this point on).

12 Levels
15 minute levels will be 3 hours
20 minute levels will be 4 hours (I recommend this one)
30 minute levels will be 6 hours

Personally I prefer a progression where the big blind is always double the small blind:

Level    Small          Big
5
50
75 100
6
75
100 150

Found a typo here:

Level  Small       Big
4
400

400 800

I corrected those obvious errors, which have been posted on my site for years!

Good luck, nutn

I've always had a bit of an issue with the jump from 25/50 to 50/100 which is the only time the blinds double.

With a small adjustment you can easily take care of this jump, which I think improves the flow of the blinds.
(Thanks to the other members for working this one out with me).

I also don't think the 500/1000 level is really needed. That way it'll have a similar flow in the higher blinds as in the lower.
