My friends use the same blinds sched they use at the Taj.  Took it from their site.

25/50
50/100
100/200, 25 ante
150/300, 50
200/400, 75
300/600, 100
500/1000, 100
800/1600, 200
1000/2000, 300
1500/3000, 500
2000/4000, 500
3000/6000, 1000
5000/10000, 1000
8000/16000, 2000
10000/20000, 3000
15000/30000, 5000
20000/40000, 5000

It goes on for 20 levels total, but we've never gone beyond level 15 (10000/20000, 3000.)  We start with T5000 in chips (2-$1000 chips, 4-$500 chips, 8-$100 chips, and 8-$25 chips.)  We set the blinds timer for 10 min, and games usually last 2 hrs, so we get 2-3 games in a night.  We usually have enough players for only 2 tables, so we do not need to color-up.  Works well for us.

I personally would want to color up, with your ending blinds at 10000/20000, 3000 ante people having to count out their $25 chips? ? ?

If you colored up, I would imagine you could shave even more time off the tourney by saving time with low denomination chip counting, not that that is a good thing.  Why not lengthen the blinds a little to 20 or at least 15 minute levels, and settle for 2 tourneys at 3-4 hours than 3 tourneys at 2hrs....

Just my opinion.....

By the way, what is the buy in and payout schedule?  Also, by 2 tables do you mean two tables of 8, 9, or 10?

It is a good size field, congrats on getting that many regs!

Yeah, there are a lot of $25 chips towards the end of the game, and it used to be a problem until we told the players to keep the stacks to 20 chips, so that we know that each stack is worth $500.  Then we can quickly count the stacks for a total.  Also, we don't splash the chips around, so it doesn't get messy in between hands.

We like 10 min blinds for 2-hr games because it keeps the people who bust out early from waiting too long for the next game.  We are a friendly bunch, not cut-throat, and it keeps the players coming back.  Also, when we get to heads-up, if the stacks are close to even, or if the play takes longer than 2 levels, someone will usually offer a chop.  Real friendly  Smiley

We play 2 tables because we usually have anywhere from 11-14 people.  We would sometimes squeeze 11 on one table, and hope someone busts out early to make room.  Usually happens by the 4th level.

Our payout is pretty fair, not too top heavy, but mostly paying top 3 finishes:
14 people = $80/40/20
10 people = $60/30/10
8 people = $50/20/10

Fewer players pays 2 spots:
7 people = $50/20
6 people = $50/10

Fewer than that is winner-take-all.

I/m surprised you guys go to the antes that early. We rarely hit ours, if ever, but glad to hear it works out; I can't say I'll never try it.

Props on getting it from the Taj, that alone sounds pretty sweet.

This is somewhat of a fast structure. The antes start at level 3, which they are supposed to start at level 5. To fix this, add a 75-150, and a 100-200 (without antes) and this should be good. 10 minutes is a little too fast (in my opinion) for blinds. The deal might not even make it around the table in one level. 2 hours for two tables is also a little fast. You should try out at least 15 minute levels. 20 minutes is my prefered level (but you do start with a lot of chips).

I disagree.  Antes usually start at 1/4 of the SB when and when they are the lowest chip in play...  By that standard, they start at the proper place.

I agree its fast.  That's what happens when you adopt a casino schedule to home play.  Keep in mind that the casino had different goals in mind then you may want in your home game...namely, a quicker tournament with more than just 25 or 30 players...

Yes, the antes should be the lowest denomintion chip and when it is 1/4 of the small blind. But antes shouldn't start until level 5. This is why I'm adding 2 levels. The antes will still be the lowest chip, and 1/4 of the small blind.

Here is how they should go
25-50
50-100
75-150
100-200
100-200 (25 ante)

Going from 25-50 to 50-100-25 is a huge jump to me.  The opening pot at a full nine-handed table for instance goes from 75 to 375.  That's quite a difference.  If it was MY tourney, I would add in a 75-150 and 100-200 (no ante) level.
