Cash Game 1/2 NLHE
Seat 1: SB
Seat 2: BB
Seat 3: UTG
Seat 4: DB
Seat 5: Player sat out previous orbit. Decides to play this hand. Posted missed blinds.

Should the first card of the deck go to Seat 1 or Seat 5?

Player to the left of the button always gets the first card in NLHE.

Player to the left of the button always gets the first card in NLHE.

Which is always the SB (or, possibly the BB if using dead button rule).

The player must wait for the next hand.

The player must wait for the next hand.

If he waits then he is not in the hand so therefore would not receive the first card. As long as house rules permit it, the player returning to the seat immediately to the left of the dealer can also "buy the button" by posting his missed BB which is live and his missed SB which is dead money in the pot.
