1/3rd, half, bottom on top...

Half?

So I hafta grab 17 cards (as close to 1/3 as I can come), then 26 cards, then the remaining 9 cards go on top?

Or do I grab 17, then 9 (to get to half (26 cards)) then the other 26 go on top...

I am soooo confused!

Given his avatar, it's obvious that Nutn always strip shuffles.

What I have read is: Pull about ten cards at a time from the top of the deck.

With 1/3 you are more or less only doing a tri part cut.

When he says "half" he means half of whats left, so if you take off 17, then another 17, then but the bottom 18 on top.

I think I read somewhere that the strip should be done with between 4 and 6 "strips".

Also, The Proffessional Poker Dealers Handbook says the left ("pulling") hand shall rest on the table (little finger resting on table). You bring the stub in, grab some cards and then pull the stub out so the cards fall down. That way all the strips drop at the same spot.

If you hold the stub still and pull the strips off it is harder to drop them all in the same spot.

Has anyone heard of the Scarne shuffle? He recomends pulling a block of cards from the middle of a deck and then placing them on top and then shufling.
