There are a couple of references in that link that talk about their fantastic side pot calculation technique. Any ideas of what this might be?

Also, has any one here actually paid for the AD course and would recommend it?

I  bought this program, and well, lets see how my feelings are.

First off I have to say that I have not done an significant practicing, but have read through most of the techniques. It seems pretty comprehensive, but also not too deep to be confusing.

My biggest gripe is that it is an "e-book" so you can't print out a hard copy. Also there is no live video (yet, I'll get more on this later) and it only shows some frame by frame (like a Power Point slide show) of some of the techniques. Not too good for fast action tasks like the riffle or the pitch. The fact that I can't print out some of the lessons and take them to my table bothered me. It's not too convenient to move the computer near the table and lean over every time you want to switch lessons. Sure you could buy a laptop, but still... No hard copy at all? What if I want to study it while traveling? Again, did I need to buy a laptop with this training? Oh and don't bother at all if you have a Macintosh, as eBookPro is only for the PC platform.

I have not seen anything about the "fantastic method for side pot calculation" but I'll take another look, and tell ya'll what I find.

Overall, I'd say this. It's worth the price of $200 if you want to look official when dealing cards. It is thorough, and covers all the aspects of dealing NLHE. It's certainly given me a solid foundation for dealing cards and it gets noticed everytime I play, and people ask me if I would teach them the proper techniques. I'm a bit slow with the whole proceedure, but I'm focusing on quality, not quantity right now.  Grin

Now I mentioned the lack of videos before. I got an e-mail a couple of months ago that they were shooting all new video and getting ready for a major update and a significant price increase very soon. But if you "act now" (as I did) these updates would be free to previous owners of the program.

So I would say if you are considering it, buy it now. They have a full refund guarantee if you don't like it you get your money back, but if you buy it sooner than later, you will get the currently planned updates for free when released.

Anything more specific, just fire away, I'll try my best to answer them.

I paid for the course too; since I run a tournament once a month and always end up dealing, I needed to improve my techniques...

I fully agree with OTB; the lack of video makes the learning curve a little bit vertical at times, but the overall program is very well presented. Definitely cheaper than going to a school in Las Vegas...if you follow their practice sessions as described, you can't help but get better. At my last tournament, everyone could tell something was different, especially since I was the first man out and somebody else had to take over!!

I did not see anything unique about their side pot calculations except how to do them one at a time...kinda a no brainer to me...

They didn't use a spell checker in the typed instructions...they misspelled "received
" about a dozen times...I before E except after C...

Its a good start in the right direction; if the video comes along it will be even better
an investment. Lets see if they use the spell checker too...

Can you give an example of something you used to do (when you were a skilled, but untrained amateur) that you have changed?

Erik:

The method of shuffling is most important...riffling is the standard and it takes a little effort to do it well...you don't expose the cards to anyone and its random.

Dealing to a target takes practice too...after a while you can stuff the second card under the first and really impress some people...

Finally, there is speed....its amazing how many more hands can be played per hour if the dealer is good at his job.

Good luck,

I think memorizing the entire proper dealing sequence (down to simple things like patting the table after squaring the pot, and before turning the next card) from beginning to end, and not feeling like you are forgetting to do something is the best thing it will teach you through practice.

The Dealer-Training guys have added 35 videos  to the online poker dealer school that is advertised here on HPT.

Check out the sample videos on the home page if you're interested in learning how to deal poker like a pro.  The dealer on the video deals on a part time basis at the Bellagio and select tournament circuits... she knows her stuff and the videos are very well done.  www.dealer-training.com for a sample.

Unfortunately, there are no visors offered  Cheesy

Did someone say it was $200? That seams like an awful lot. I'd reccomend picking up a card magic book to learn to deal. I used to do magic, which is how I got into cards, and I can deal fairly well. I can also false deal and shuffle meaning I know what to watch for, better investment if you ask me.

I may be wrong about the price, can't open the site.

Didn't want you guys to miss this opportunity.

http://www.dealer-training.com/ is selling its course for only $49 for the next 4 days (until May 24th).

I received the offer by e-mail, but it's also on their home page. I had a quick glance and it looks good.

Hey Johnbaker3,

thanks for the riffle shuffle tip.  We do not use a cut card at my home game and I am always cognizant of exposing the bottom of the deck.  I watched the videos on the riffle shuffle and I see how it would certainly eliminate that possibility.

I haven't seen anyone comparing this with The Professional Poker Dealers Handbook?
