what do you guys generally prefer and why, 2 pip or 4 pip cards?

i prefer the look of 4 pip but usually use 2 pip for my hold'em games just because that is what i have.

any advantages/disadvantages or just preferences towards one or the other?

2 pip for me. In my opinion the 4 pip solves a problem that never existed. It provides the "extra convenience" of being able to use the opposite corners for fanning or checking ranks but to me it's just not a big deal to use the upper left corner. And in all likelihood, no one in my game would ever end up using them anyway since we are all so used to using the traditional corner. Maybe left handers find it beneficial?

I'm left handed, and honestly I'm so used to the 2 pip the 4 pip wouldn't change anything for me. However, I do like the look of some 4 pip designs, but I would not buy another deck just because they were 4 pip.

I love the 4-pip design, but for aesthetic reasons instead of usability reasons. Having said that, the last decks I purchased were 2-pip large or jumbo size for the readability of the board cards for some of my older players who have a harder time seeing the cards these days.

does anyone see any disadvantages to the 4 pip design, such as possibly making it easier for opponents to sneak a glimpse at your hole cards if you look at them carelessly?

If you consider poor aesthetics a disadvantage then yes, I do. Security-wise, I can't imagine that the secondary pips are going to be easier to see than the primary ones.

I like both tbh. Don't have a preferrence for either.

In PLO, I guess I would prefer 2 pip though, less numbers on the board, lol.

There are no drawbacks to having 4 pips rather than 2. I have no real preference over either, it's just that most cards only have 2, and I don't go out of my way to find 4 pip cards.

Got some southpaws that like the 4 pip.  We also like them in our non-poker games (spades, hearts, etc..) because we have one dude who fans his cards backwards and plays with his hand upside-down with 2 index cards (don't ask.... I have no clue).

...

I disagree. My reservations are mostly aesthetic in that I don't care for the look of the 4 pip cards but there is more visual clutter on the board for community card games. Whether or not that difference is big enough to worry about is up to the individual but there is a difference. Taken to the extreme one could say that having twelve pips on the cards would not have any drawbacks.

I'm left handed, & peek by usually using my left thumb to lift the left corner of the card, I would never use the right corner, but I've used both 2 & 4 pip & also have no preference.

No preference here, except to say that, with 4-pip cards, I prefer a slightly smaller size than with the 2-pip cards.

I wonder if 4 pip would make much of a difference visually in a stud game with the amount of upcards each player has?

I think 4 pips are common in europe, i prefer actually 4 pip but just because i find 2 pips "uncommon" for holdem poker it does not make a difference, but for games where I hold my hand actually and do not leave the cards on the table, i am used fan the cards the other way around ... with 2 pips iam screwed Smiley

Let's do it math.   2pip = 2 eyes.   correct

                         4pip =  2 eyes   incorrect

    so add a glasses 2 and 2 eyes  = 4pip   correct

Our club decided on 4-pip (we use Modiano Cristallo's) for readability by Dealer and Player, and Players on opposite sides of table. No complaints about 4-pip here.

I have a personal preference for four-pip cards (although I am left-handed, I find the term "left-handed deck" a misnomer as I imagine it as a two-pip deck with the indexes on the opposite corners from the usual ones), but two-pip cards are OK with me too.

i am the same, left handed and while i kind of prefer the looks of 2 pip, i do prefer to play with 4 pip cards, easier for me being left handed
