Playing in my first shootout tournament - 24 people, 4 tables of 6.  First round to last 3 hours, 2nd round about 2 hours.  I have got some ideas, but just wondering if anyone care to share any strategy thoughts on how to adjust game from normal tournament.

this. play to win period. best to build a stack so you come to heads up with a chip advantage and can advance easier.

The term "shootout" gets used to describe more than one format. In your tourney, how many players advance from one table? And do stacks reset in the second round or do chips carry forward?

You're right, you should probably play every hand instead. That way you won't ever miss the opportunity to hit Quads on the Flop.

I was voting for a tight aggressive style...definitely not a super nitty type game... Grin

I don't think, if it's a normal shootout, that you need any particular style.  Not to sound quaint, but it sure seems that you just want to play your game and best the best decisions on each hand.  It's about chip accumulation, not survival, so why play tight early (just to play tight early, I mean)?  It seems that if you have spots to put chips in early, then do it.  If it's +EV to make a strong move early (but you wouldn't do it in a normal sng), I don't see why you wouldn't do it, for instance.  Obviously, the endgame is the most important time, but if you are too tight early, you will be at a disadvantage late, on average.  Now, remember that I'm not very good at the pokerz, so take this with a grain of salt. OK. So obviously I don't mean playing every single hand. I think that is obviously a sarcastic reply. But just as obvious IMO is that playing tight/aggressive as suggested by DD doesn't mean that you don't every play a hand. Playing TAG is a recognized successful strategy in not only tournaments but cash games as well. I guess a better response would have been "How can you not expect to win (over the long run) playing that tight?"

Becasue despite being blinded out, he is so tight that within two weeks that piece of coal forms a diamond, he sells it and make a fortune...

shootouts are just mini SNGs same strategy. play reasonably tight get a good image, expand and change gears, get a decent stack then pressure the whole table, let the others do the work when your all even. wait for good spots etc etc etc.
