http://news.bluffmagazine.com/online-poker-pokerstars-introduces-online-home-games-17899/

I don't know how many times someone has posted about wanting to set up a tourney online with friends. Well it sounds like anyone with a Stars account can now not only set up their own private tourneys but also set up cash game tables within a ring of friends. As I recall, private tourneys could be set up on a site but that there were restrictions on who could do it. I also thought that you couldn't exclude players from joining. Anyway, seems like all that is a thing of the past. The weird thing is that they provide the feature on their .net (play money) site so if you and your friends didn't have an issue with paying off losses to each other, you could play on the .net site and save yourself the rake.

That's awesome news.....good to be able to do that considering a good amount of the people I used to play poker with live 1300 miles away. If I remember correctly you used to be able to create a private tourney if you've accumulated something like 2000 or 2500 FPP's lifetime, and you were able to password protect it but could not remove players.

I just created a club and it seems to be pretty cool.  I could see using this on occasion wit friends who I know will pay up.   Cheesy

This looks really cool.  I don't like seeing that there's a cap on the number of players in a group though.

Hmmm...not sure what that's about. If everyone is paying rake what do they care? What's the cap?

I had heard this was coming, but apparently I haven't gotten the newest update, because I can't find it on my menu.

"The new feature is already live and running on PokerStars.net with plans to launch on the real money PokerStars.com site later this week."

I would just wait. Sounds like they a .com version is going to be rolled out soon.

I have both installed on my laptop.  When I sign in to .net it recognizes my bankroll from .com and I just sign with the
same info as on .net as .com.

This is up and running on the .com site - it is VERY EASY - I have started one for some of the folks that play in my home game - no one has joined yet - as I just did it about 10 minutes ago and sent the email to tell them - but man it seems easy to create tourneys....we should look into maybe doing this with some of our HPT members here....
someone create a HPT home game and we go from there....what does anyone think on this???

Ok, I created a group for us here.  Here are the instructions Pokerstars told me to pass on:

You are invited to join my private poker club for Home Games online.

- If you don't already have it, download the free PokerStars software from www.pokerstars.com
- Open the main poker lobby, then click on the Home Games tab
- Click the 'Join a Poker Club' button
- Enter my Club ID number: 8855
- Enter my Invitation Code: hptforums

That's it! Once I've approved your membership request, we'll be ready to start playing Home Games online together.

If you want to find out more, visit www.pokerstars.com/homegames

I had to modify my post. I accidentally posted another group the first time around.  It's right now.

Just to let you folks know, while I have no problem setting up tournaments, etc for this home game group, I don't want anyone to think I was trying to steal thunder.  If there used to be a league here and someone else was generally in charge and wants the reins to this, then thats cool.

I made the group basically just seeing if I could, and then realized it was too late to get rid of it.  Either way, this should be fun!

Agreed - even if (given what are probably our varied schedules around here) even if we can only play some - it should be fun!

Exactly. Any time we can get in a game it would be awesome. Maybe we should have people post times when they will be free to play a tourney?

I guess we can give it a few days or a week to get a stock pile of players and see what nights the most people can play.

There could always be scheduled tournaments at whatever buy in and then also  create a ring game table or two at different stakes that players can filter in and out of at their leisure.  Plenty of people play ring games and tourneys at the same time any way so it might be fun to be able to play both against the same players.

Hah, of course.  I didn't ask people to PM me or post here as a show of power or anything.  But, it's only a matter of time before someone with 1 post asks to join, in which case would kill the point of the private game.

How about January 19th @ 22:00 ET in the $100 HPT January Freeroll. This is a series of free poker tournaments with real money prizes, free poker merchandise, league champions, and more!

I have created a HomePokerTourney Home Game at PokerStars to be used for a freeroll tournament league (and real money cash games during/after the tournament games).

Good luck, nutn

This is one of the smartest things that any poker site could do to drive people to their site. I can't believe it took this long. Wonder how long it will be until FTP does the same.
