For the last several years we have held a monthly poker game with basically the same group of about 12 guys...recently one of our members played poker with another gourp....when it came to heads up the TD insisted that the dealer was the Big Blind...we had always played the game with the dealer (during heads up) was the small blind...the TD insisted that this was the way it has always been...I replayed some of the TV poker episodes and the dealer was always the small blind...I researched Roberts rules of poker and it identifies the dealer (during heads up) as the small blind....but some web sites are claiming that during heads up the dealer is the Big
 Blind.....comments please...many thanks...Buck

"When there are only two players remaining in a poker tournament - the small blind is the button and acts first before the flop and last after the flop. The player who does not have the button is dealt the first playing card."

http://www.homepokertourney.com/button.htm

RRoP is the closest thing to a de facto standard as there is. Button is SB in any tourney worth its salts. As for websites that claim otherwise, a) this is the Internet, you can *always* find someone to say something contrary to the facts b) let's hear what sites they are.

Their confusion may well have come from not knowing how to set the button properly after a player busts out in third place (see same page as above) but that still doesn't make it right.

Thanks Martini...the TD was adament that he was correct...even bet my buddy $100 that the Dealer was ALWAYS the Big Blind during heads up....unfortunately my buddy did not take the bet...however I have a Blackberry phone and I played one of those comuter poker tournaments...and during  heads up they did have the dealer as the Big Blind...it was confusing...but I did end up winning the tournament...now my buddy is claiming that other web sites (I will find out who they are) are claiming that the dealer should be the Big Blind during heads up...thanks...Buck

If he wants to put his money where his mouth is I'm sure he'd have no problem finding action for his bet on this forum.

Heads up, dealer is SB, in part, so that he does not have best position pre-flop.

Yeah, somehow I'm get the feeling that the guy is going to back off of his stance before we get a chance to make a wager with him...just a hunch.

Thanks everyone...told my buddy he should have taken the bet,,,could have made an easy $100....but if anyone has a Blackberry phone with Verizon service you will notice on the game section they do have Texas Hold-Em...and during heads up they have the Dealer as the Big Blind.....so there are indiviuals out there that do not have the dealer as the small blind...but anyone who has read "Roberts Rules of Poker", watched poker on TV or has accessed this site (Home Poker Tourney) should realize that the dealer is always the small blind during heads up....again thanks for your help...BUCK

Computer games tend to be bad examples when it comes to correctly applying rules.

Shortcuts are usually taken in the programming, and since there's nothing anybody can say to a computer to change its ruling, people tend to take everything at face value.
