I need to buy a poker table, to seat probably 5-9 players, I don't have a lot of room so was thinking about an octaganal table, I'll need it to have folding legs.

Does anyone have any advise, or expereinces they can share, I need to buy one by the end of the month, thanks

If you already have a table large enough you can also look at just getting a table topper or making something yourself. Much cheaper and more convenient to set up/break down.

I'm not in a position to build one, no transport, or expereince, tools or anything, and I have no table big enough.

I would go with the octagon one for that amount of players....if you consistently had 9 or 10 I would insist on an oval.  For shorthanded games though I do like octagon tables. We used a table top but if you do not have a table get an oval one.

Hi,

I bought one of these over a year ago and a couple of friends have bought them since. If your table is large enough that the table top doesn't overhang then they're very comfortable to play at. They're available with a velveteen or speedcloth padded playing surface and come in lots of colours. The racetrack is not wooden but for £50 delivered I think they're great value. Certainly as good if not better than the ones you linked to anyway.

Edit: I've just re-read your OP and now see you dont have a table to put this on! Perhaps if you were considering paying £130 for the table in your second link and this one only costing £50 you could now consider a table and table top?

Here's a picure of mine before a game:

Regards,

Brian.

Lucky, these both look pretty good, and seem to be compact enough to fit in a smaller area. Octagon is the way to go for you I think.

IMO both of those look incredibly crappy. Cheap particleboard Chinese construction. What is your price range?  There are a few really reputable builders in the uk.  I'd try to get in touch with gaz over on scottkeen's forum to see about getting a custom table built. That is probably the best way to meet all of your criteria. Might cost a bit but with a nice table you can attract more players whose money (once you've relieved them of it) should pay off the table in no time.

You could also go for a round table. I personally prefer those to octagonal tables. No corners, so it's more comfortable to sit at.

budget will be £150 max, haven't measured up to get a clear idea on available space yet.

I've also considered buying a table and a topper, but having a fold up package as the advantage of saving space.

That looks a bit nicer but I'd still want to make sure that the base is plywood rather than particle board and if it is particle you'd want to be sure it has some sort of frame to keep it from bending. I just worked up a quote from ace and a face (premier builder in the uk). For an 8' x 4' build with suited speed cloth a padded suede rail with 10 upholders built into the rail the quote is 625 gbp. So yeah it's a bit expensive but we're talking an awesome table.

not worth the money in my case, sure I don't want a bag of crap table, but that sort of money is just not cost effective for me atm. Thanks for checking tho.

I can vouch for the idea of reinforcing the particle board bottom.  I have a table with fold out legs that came from Dick's.  It was pretty easy to measure, cut and attach plywood to the bottom.  The table is significantly heavier, but man it's worth it.  No more bowing from fat elbows.

I don't know if you have a home improvement store over there like Home Depot but you can get a square "card table" with folding legs, have them cut down a 4x8 sheet of plywood and do four more cuts to make an octagon, then buy headliner and some smooth fabric like velveteen from the fabric store and have a better table than a lot of the junk you get online. You can just lay the headliner and fabric on top, no need to do any sewing or stapling or anything. You can price it out but I am pretty sure it will come in within your budget.

I'd try for a decent sized dining table at a thrift store, then lay neoprene on top for a max of 50 quid. Then you actually have a table for a dinner party as well

too late, already ordered the round table above. Good idea tho, I don't really have the space to keep a dinning table available all the time, hence the folding legs on this is super good. I already have a poker table top cover thingy, so thats a good idea for my next place if this table isn't up to much by then.

Thanks everyone.

Those stores are good ideas if they're available in the UK....not sure. Sports Authority also has a decent one if it's available by you. Definitely want to buy in-store from those places to avoid a big shipping charge.

I've just recieved my poker table, this one bellow:

http://www.poker-shop.co.uk/product_tex425_gbp_en.html

First impression was, WOW!

Its big, bigger then I pictured, looks amazing, feels amazing, way better then the tables at my local casino, looks exceptionally well built and the design looks very well thought out, it was extremley well packaged, making use of felt off cuts and lots of bubble rap, as well as foam padding to protect it.

I've just unfolded the legs and stood it up, it just feels amazing, I really can't wait to play on it, I'm hoping it will transform my home game. Only downside is it takes up 3/4 of my front room :-) for anyone in the UK I would very highly reccomend this table.

I didn't want to flip the table over as its so heavy and it would suck if I damaged it before tommorow's game, so I took a picture from underneath, not ideal, but hopefully it will show some detail of the supporting structure, which I think is very good.

Where the legs are secures a box structure is formed, and above this there is another larger square of board / wood at an angle to this forming a diamon shapre that reaches beyond the edges of this inner box supporting the table top.

There is also a strap between the legs so they don't open too far, and a catch to lock them open.
