It doesn't, but I should have stated that, thanks. I will add it to the OP.

How can you have unlimited rebuys all tourney?  Why not just play a cash game?
Personally, I would think that the best strategy is to not play the tourney and just play a cash game, but maybe that's just me.

Well, even with them unlimited the whole tourney, at some point it would become silly to rebuy because your stack would be so puny in comparison w/ the other players.  So it would sort of be limited by practicality.

But personally I don't like the idea, either..  Of course that doesn't matter, because I won't be there to play in it.. LOL

I wouldn't start with 100 BB if there are unlimited rebuys.

And essentially, I think rebuys end when the buy-in matches the SB? If you can't cover the BB with your stack you can hardly grow your stack any more.

I've tried this in the past. I would put a cap on rebuys possibly when you make the money. I've seen people rebuy for less than one BB to be able survive enough hands to have someone else knocked out before the BB comes back around.

How long of a game are you planning? There won't be much different to run a 10k stack vs. a 20k stack due to the plan to have many rebuys.

My guess is there won't be that many rebuys in this event. I don't think it will effect the tourney that much.

I know threads take their own direction here, but I don't think I said critique the hell out this tourney (not mine, just another league game to mix things up a bit).

Six Replies, Zero Strategic suggestions..........unless you count "don't play in it".

The first thing I noticed is that the structure is pretty reasonable for a normal tourney. 100xBB and a decent progression. I would just stick to plain ol' standard TAG and assume that you'll get some looser than normal action because of the unlimited rebuy aspect. Usually for unlimited rebuys I see a shorter stack and/or faster schedule in order to drive more action and essentially force people to rebuy but that isn't the case here. I'd also prolly cap my rebuys to just one in case I got sucked out on and it is early enough in the tourney. There might be a temptation to chase with unlimited rebuys but that's a sucker bet after a while because you just don't have enough equity in the tourney to justify putting in more money.

I think most, like me are surprised by the unlimited rebuy deal. I suppose it will take care of itself.

As far as strategy, you might want to up your "gamble" a bit, especially early. If you get lucky a couple times you could be sitting pretty. If not you can be right back in the thick of things for only $25 more. I recall reading about D Negrenau rebuying multiple times in a WSOP (I think) rebuy event with this exact strategy, because he figured he could outplay people later when the rebuys stopped and he hopefully had a healthy stack. Personally I am not a big fan of these rebuy deals. At the charity rooms they turn into "all in fests" for the first hour, but knowing your league I don't see that happening. At least not to the extent of a $5 or $10 charity tourney. Not to mention I don't really count on myself outplaying people...

lol @ dd getting riled up over a thread getting off-topic. Wink

two options here imo:

play loosey goosey (like looser than my high school girlfriend...what a hussy)

-or-

uber tight (you know, like a frog's .... nevermind)

seems like the pros take the first option here to try and build the prize pool, relying on their skill to outplay the field once the rebuy period has ended.  i hate rebuy tourneys...the guys with deeper pockets really seem to chase and make unconventional plays, especially early on.  i just don't adjust well to that...maybe that's just one of many holes in my game.  oh well.  one of my buddies hosts one and the only reason i show up is because he knows how to run a good game (nice tables, nice chairs, nice chips, nice bar, etc.) and the cash game afterward is incredibly profitable.

for what its worth..............most of our League games are freeze outs. We tried one fixed limit tourney (I won't play in that again), and a couple of standard One Rebuy games. This is our first unlimited rebuy tourney.

My initial plan is to play tight, "UNLESS" I hit some big draws on the flop. Then I might over bet, and up the gamble as Mike suggested to try a quick double/triple up.
