See, to me, there's absolutely nothing funny at all about that..

And I'm a bit disgusted with myself for watching the whole thing..

I'm a little suspicious of how legit that tourney is. Could be for real but he would likely have to record a LOT of turbo SnG's to end up with one where he wins. And move that microphone further away so we don't have to hear the exhales.

So are you all disgusted with Gus Hansen and would call him ridiculous and a d-bag?

He did the exact same thing in a live tournament.

1. They are both poker tournaments.
2. They both had the same strategy of going all in.
3. They both found won.

I don't see how you class that as 'not even remotely close'.

Just because one was league points and one was a sit and go? Thats the only slight difference I can see.

Because in the Poker Superstars, Gus was in a very specific situation.. He HAD to win his round, and there were other players that, due to the scoring method, HAD to finish in certain spots.. While still a bit nuts, his strategy made sense, given the circumstances.. This dolt is in a $2 SnG and does it from the outset for no reason whatsoever except for to try and make himself look cool on the internet..

So when you play online...do you post a tell your opponents ahead of time how you want them to play? So that way they won't upset you if they win with inferior starting hands. It's poker, he paid his money and with that has the freedom to play any way he wants. Would you be just as upset at him if you were the one playing him and won the tourney?

There are too many players who think their way is the best and only way to play and when someone doesn't follow that "play book" they beginning bashing and name calling. I say maintain your class and dignity and when beat, say "nice hand' and readjust your strategy next time.

I don't think it's necessarily about this guy not playing 'my way' or 'your way'....it's the fact that he's turning it into a gamblefest and making the game look like there's no skill involved at all.

Guy's a nerd, but I don't know what's wrong with how he played.  I mean, he paid his buy in and can shove every hand if he wants to.  Listening to his dweeby, mouth breathing commentary is annoying, though.

I couldn't agree with you more, everyone is too quick to judge and brand this disgusting and ridiculous.

But yet when a pro does it, it's totally understandable and acceptable, if a pro did this instead of him and posted the video, i bet he wouldn't be judged and branded.

You seriously still don't see the difference between his video and Gus Hansen's situation?

And again, nobody is saying there's anything wrong with playing that way (although it's stupid).. It's his reaction and how impressed he is with himself that disgusts me..  It's not "funny".. it's dumb..

You are making out that there is a huge difference, Hansen kept going all in because he needed to win, obviously.

But this was a sit and go which only pays one or two places, you could say he needed to win this, and thats why he did the 100% all ins.

'Nobody is saying there is anything wrong with this' i know that, but i am shocked at how other poker players can prejudge someone without knowing them and calling him and what he did 'disgusting', 'ridiculous' and a 'd-bag'. The guy was obviously just testing something and did it for a laugh, he paid his buy in, why is this so disgusting and ridiculous? I HATE people prejudging people and criticising everything they do thats what is disgusting and ridiculous.

First of all the guy himself was implying that it was ridiculous. He knew that he was getting his money in bad and sucking out. He even admitted that he was on tilt before he sat down and player. I have no problem with anyone shoving every hand, they paid their buy in and can do whatever they want, in fact I welcome players like that. However, people have the right to their opinion about someone playing like that. And people like pokerollie have the right to criticize people who criticize others...though I find that hypocritical to say the least.

Doesn't really solve much....limit they're betting/raising standard bet every time, and pot limit you're calling the pot the whole way.

I like reading everyones opinions, that is why I posted it, I think peoples choice of words are a bit hash towards someone they dont know. Its poker, if a play like that seriously offends you so much then you shouldnt be playing poker.

I think some people think shoving every hand is bad (and some seem to get really mad about it), and some think the guy making the video sounds like a nerd (which, you know, he does.)  Personally, I don't understand how it's bad to just shove every hand for fun (I mean, it might be dumb, but it's his decision and he paid his buy in).  Also, I don't see how one could not think he came off sounding nerdy in his commentary.  I mean, his condescending attitude toward the stakes, his laugh, and his general demeanor are all off-putting, at least imo.  If a different person had made the video I think it could be incredibly funny, but, personally, I wasn't really a fan of it.

Personally, my favorite part of the video was the youtube comments.  If you think some people here were harsh, you should read some of those.  I mean, some of them ranged from just eye-rolling to kind of scary.

Other players can fire up a new sng though.  Everyone who pays their buy in can play however they want, as long as it's within the rules (obviously, no colluding or anything.)

I don't think it ruins the game at all...maybe takes the fun out of it for the super passive, play your cards straight up, bet when you have it check when you dont type players. When someone's playing that loose its a good thing, I just dont like how he thinks he's like the internet hero of the day for it.

well i think it forces you to make the coin flip at some point and risk it all in one hand. So he steals my tournament time Cheesy

But still I feel whatever he wants and i skipped a little through the video and well - why not ...

also compared to the other stuff thats out there this is still getting some points Smiley

Better than having never posted anything video-like on the net Wink

I don't, it was meant as information for those who do.

One thing about poker is that you can not control how the other players play. I bet there are people out there who gets frustrated of players raising 4BB pre flop, because then they can't limp to see the flop. And I bet there are people out there who don't like when others check-raise or slow play. But that's also part of poker.

Sure, going all in pre flop might not be very good play, but really, as long as the hand has more than 50% chance to win it IS correct according to the odds. And isn't that what we always do? Play according to the odds?

In the long run the EV might not be as good as if the hands were played "normally", but I still can understand why players play like that.
