The game is NLHE, 6.60, Turbo STG, 45 players.

I was getting tired of grinding the .05/.10 cash tables, so to mix things up I played in one of these Turbo's. I have never played a Turbo STG before, but I didn't have a ton of time, so I figured why not.

It was actually a lot of fun.

First one I took 3rd place for $42's. Should have taken 2nd place, but took a runner/runner beat to get crippled when we were down to 3 people.

Second one I played in, I finished in 14th. Played good, Card dead near the end, just couldn't hold out for the final table.

Third one I played in, I finished 3rd again. Needed to get lucky a couple of times getting to the final table, but once at the final table taking 3rd wasn't to hard.

I'm interested in hearing your strategies in attacking these style of tournies. I don't plan on playing them religiously by any means, but if I can maintain some type of winning ratio, I might as well keep it up.

What I have learned is, that the best strategy to take in these Turbo's is Patience. I know that sounds weird, but its true.

That doesn't mean that in the first few minutes, if I have an opportunity to double up, I won't take that risk. I'm not going to use an A/J in that situation, or a small pair. I'm not going to race for my money early if I can avoid it .

Patience is alo key late in the game. Both final tables I have played at so far, players seem to get impatient and feel they have to double up. I let them fight it out between each other. I try not to call all ins unless I have to, if I'm first in the pot at the final table, I will shove.

Once were in the money, players seem to be happy to be there, and go crazy trying to double up, or end the tourney. I let them, and move up in the money.

I find that in the turbos people tend to think they need to double up in the first 10 minutes....so they end up busting really quick. I play the beginning stages like a normal tourney, playing tight and just waiting for the others to make a mistake. The biggest difference is being more aggressive when you're shortstacked in this game. IMO the difference between a successful turbo player and one that is not so successful is the ability to be super aggressive on the shortstack. Paying attention to who is going nuts and stacking off really light is important as well.

I like these 45 man Turbo's. The games are pretty quick.

HH, if the opportunity to double up shows its face in the first 10 minutes or so, I will gamble, but otherwise, yep, patience is a virtue.

Same with any game, if the table is tight, I'm firing, if its crazy loose, I'm sitting back and biding my time.

DD:

I agree that being patient and playing tight pays off in the end.

A good thing to have an absolute strategy about is "all-ins"....

I only shove with the nuts (post flop or AA preflop) to avoid suicidal thoughts...however, what do you call an all-in with?

I only call against much shorter stacks (to minimize the pain of suck-outs) and like to have AJ or better....no small pairs for sure...

Be safe,

Variance caught up.

I'm 0-3 in my last three games. Once, I had K/K vs A/A on the first hand, lost..........

Another one I hit K/K/ vs A/A in the second blind level, lost

The other one I had bad timing, lol.

Trying one more.
