Playing at P*...playing heads up tourneys ($10.50 buyins) in both situations....

NLHE
first hand I get  ace of diamonds king of diamonds and raise it up to T60...get RR and flat call since I have the button....
flop comes  4 of diamonds king of clubs ten of diamonds .... villain bets - I call.  Turn is  ace of clubs ...he bets I think I am good so I RR and he RR all in..figure even if he has the str8 I have the flush draw so I call  - with top two pair....he turns over  king of spades ten of hearts
and the river is ...  ten of spades .... what was it about 95%-5% when the chips went in?Huh

next tourney - PLO - first hand again....
I get  ten of spades ace of spades king of diamonds jack of diamonds ... button raises to 20 I call...flop comes  3 of spades 7 of spades jack of spades...he bets I RR the pot - he RR the pot and pretty soon its all in ....
he has  8 of spades 7 of hearts ten of clubs 5 of clubs
turn is  5 of diamonds
river is  5 of hearts
and again I was ... what about 95%-5% to win....two str8 flipping hands....needless to say I am on some serious tilt!

Both beats are tough, namely the second one.  Fwiw, on hand one I strongly favor 4 betting pre and shipping that monster flop.  If he has you beat on the flop you'll probably wind up getting it in anyway, but his range is so much wider that flatting both times has to lose a ton of value.
As for hand two, dude's just a moron.  Personally, I raise 100% of the time on the button in HU PLO so I can't criticize preflop, but wtf at getting in on the flop?  Maybe he misread his hand and thought he flopped a flush, but if not...wow.

Anyway, sorry for the strat in the bad beat section.  Both are very tough beats, obviously.

I was done for the night anyway - or I would have just lost more being on tilt! Grin

very hard to play well imo, takes way more discipline then I have, I seem to do okay in razz tourney's, but make way too many loose call downs in razz cash games.

Jumped back in today - playing PLO/PL Hold'em HU tourney
1st blind level...10/20 ... PLH
after about 6 hands and getting raised every hand by villain either in big blind or small blind - didn't matter ....I have
ace of spades 7 of spades  on the button - I raise - villain RR and I call
flop is  2 of spades ace of hearts queen of spades .... he bets out - I RR - He RR and I go all in - he turns over  9 of spades 8 of spades ...
turn is  9 of clubs
river is  8 of diamonds
and for the third HE tourney in a row - I am gone with another sick hand...WTF .... I am almost at a loss - don't like posting in this thread but this is flipping ridiculous and I will never again apologize for any "beat" I put on anyone.

I have two separate pieces of advice.  Either play more, or play less.  I tend to lean toward playing more.  As the folks that put in a lot of volume will tell you, the more you are playing, the less you really even tend to notice the bad beats.  I have really plowed through a lot this summer, so I honestly don't even flinch too much, unless I'm super deep in a tournament and its the only game i'm playing.

Or try this.

Start a thread called "Hands that played out according to the odds" and post an update in it for every single hand you play that works out as it should according to the odds.

After about 100 tournaments, count the number of posts in that thread compared to the number of posts you've put in the bad beat thread.

I am not meaning to sound like I am complaining....but 3 times in a row like that was pretty bad - and FYI - i play almost every single day for at least a couple hours and I also get that the majority of the time the "odds" work out.....just disgusted that 3 straight HU tourneys turned out like that.

Here's a way to look at it:

Unless you win the tourney, the last hand you play is one you lose.

And if you lose it, it's probably going to be due to one of the following:
- A bad beat
- Bad play on your own part

to some extent I agree but not always the case....AAvsKK - and the AA win & I lose when it flopped AK3...isn't a bad beat and isn't bad play, just to big hands that tangled...neither person played it wrong ...at least I know I am probably not folding KK preflop....unless certain circumstances where its not heads up and the next player to bust is the bubble boy....

When will it stop.....$20+2 SNG at P*.....third hand, blinds 10-20....in BB I get  5 of clubs 5 of spades...first position raiser opens for 60....MP...RR to 120...I think about it and call hoping to flop a set or check fold....flop comes...
king of diamonds  4 of clubs 5 of hearts
I lead out the pot...EP raiser rolds...other player Raises all in....I call ...
he has ....
ace of diamonds king of diamonds
turn was  7 of diamonds
river was  9 of diamonds
and again as a 93-7 favorite I get spanked...and i have been keeping track of how often the best hand holds up...and yes it does more...but dang I hate seeing bad play get rewarded...

I don't bad play from him other than the small 3 bet preflop (which isn't even so bad if he's in position.)  I mean, he saw someone cold call two raises and lead right into him.  How could he know he's beat there?
Still a 'bad beat', but I don't think it was bad play getting rewarded.

You're right.  I didn't even notice that.  Now that is a bad beat...

I hate to be a d$%k here, but cold calling 55 from the BB like that is way worse than his AK play.  Still a pretty gross beat.

I hate online poker as well............playing in a PLO Hi/Lo tourney last night with the last of my BR

I have 10k in chips, late position, blinds are 100/200 I think (maybe 150/300)

I limper, gets to me. I look at Ah, Jh, qd, 3d. I haven't played in awhile. The limper is weak (but has me covered). I pot it. It folds to the BB who calls, the limper folds, hmmmmmmmm.

Great Flop for me

As, kh, 3h.

Great, no I'm drawing to the nut flush, the nut straight, and hell, I have top and bottom pairs.

The BB bets 600 into a sh%tload of money that is in the pot. I think for a second, and put him on a set of K's as his best case scenario.

I Pot it............he tanks......................then raises, we end up with all the money in on the flop.

Cards are flipped, he has a set of K's, no other draws.

Turn is an Ace, giving me a boat.....

River is a f$%king K giving him quads.

I'm done

Obviously wasn't two kings of diamonds but don't see why calling - I don't cold call or flat call or smooth call - I CALL - is such a worse play - still early in the tourney and I am not shoving with 55 or RR with them - I could almost cap the betting at that point and either flop a set and hopefully stack someone or check fold when the set doesn't hit -- what you're telling me is - you would have RR a first position raise and then a rr - you would have tossed in a third raise with 55 or you would have folded for another 90 when the pot was likely to be 370 after another call from first position raiser?? WHY???

Hah!  Cold calling is an actual term, whereas flat calling is just calling.
