Okay, so at the end of June I am taking a 4 day weekend, and thought I would go down to the Windsor area.  I have been told the poker room at Windsor is fairly "soft", and the wife is always telling me to go "do" something poker related, so I thought, what the hell . . .

Then I thought about the casino(s) on the MI side of the border . . . any comments?   Tips?

Anybody from the Detroit area want to meet up and crash the tables?  Lets hear it all folks . . .

Is this the weekend of the 25th? I work, but could probably come out SAT. evening. I have only played at Greek Town and Motor City. Personally I prefer Motor City (Soda's, gourmet sandwiches, ect...are available). I play 1/2, 200 buy in, so the play pretty much sucks no matter where you go.

If your interested in Restaurants near the Casino, the Greek Town has the best choices. If you just want to play Cards, Motor City is the place to be (I prefer Motor City, but would meet you at either place).

If your interested, I could see if AzCat or Wedge (I'm a little further from Detroit/another 30 minutes West) wanted to throw a home game together, tourney or cash, or both (probably a bigger turn out if we went tourney then cash).

Actually, it is the Canada Day/Fourth of July weekend I am talking about.

That is a generous offer, DD.  30 minutes from Detroit would not be a big deal, as I am 4+ hours from Windsor.  I was thinking of dropping into my employer's Ferndale production facility during the day on the Friday (2/7) for a nose around the place.

Cash game or Tourney would be a blast.  It would be worth donating some Cdn $$$ to meet some of you folks.  Heck, it might even be worth more by then, who knows?

Off to soccer practice.  I'll google Motor City when I get in later.  Thx, DD.

Your going to be here July 1st-4th.  A good weekend for me. I'm off the 2nd-4th. I could meet you at a Casino FRI or SAT. night. If you wanted to catch some food before cards, then Greek Town would be best, if not, then Motor City would be best. I will meet you where ever (I don't believe the wife has any plans).

Being that its the 4th of July weekend, I doubt a home game could get thrown together. I will forward this thread to AzCat and Wedge (they have a larger base of people to advertise for a game than I do).

Even if it's just a meet up at the casino, that is fine with me.  I will let you pick the card room, DD, as I just want to play somewhere new, so any of the casinos qualifies.  My thoughts about the weekend were as follows:
Leave early Friday morning for Windsor, crossing into the USA for around noon.
Drop into the Ferndale plant in the afternoon for a look-see.
Back to Windsor for some poker Friday night, and sleep.
Meet some HPT folks Saturday (3rd) for some card playing.
Head home.

I'm game for anytime on SAT. after 10 am, lol. With it being a Holiday Weekend, the tables might be juicy.

I will PM you with some details later today/tonight.

I might be the only HPT'er you meet, lol. AzCat is "off the grid" that weekend.

I think Casino Windsor (er...uh...  Ceasar's Windsor) is my favorite local poker room...  but alas, I let my passport expire, and though I've been meaning to renew it, I won't likely do so before July 4th.  You now need a passport for land travel into Canada...  Sad

I probably have plans for that weekend, but they are also probably local (family cookout, etc.), so I could probably meet up for cards if something comes together.

Actually, I think you can land travel into Canada with an Enhanced Driver's License. You need a passport for air travel. You have plenty of time to get one.

Quote
All visitors arriving to Canada need a passport or passport equivalent. These requirements changed under the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI), with the final phase in effect as of June 1, 2009.

http://gocanada.about.com/od/faqscrossingtheborde1/p/border_tips.htm

"Passport equivalent" is defined as:

   1. NEXUS Card:  A partnership between the Canada and U.S. border services that pre-approves entry for travellers by land, sea or air between Canada and U.S. An added benefit is designated and faster lanes at border crossings and airports. Application process involves interview and fingerprinting. Both U.S. and Canadian citizens apply through U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
   2. U.S. Passport Card: This U.S. Department of State-issued ID is valid for entry into Canada by land or sea, though not valid for international air travel.
   3. Enhanced Driver's License (EDL): EDLs indicate both citizenship and identity. Valid for entry into Canada by land or sea, though not valid for international air travel. As of January 2009, only available in Washington and New York states, but coming to Vermont. See individual state licensing departments for more info.
   4. FAST/Expres card: This U.S. Customs and Border Protection program pre-approves commercial truck drivers for travel between the U.S. and Canada.

Michigan does offer a EDL for $45 which allows a person to re-enter the U.S. by land or sea Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean.   But a passport renewal is only $75 and lets me travel anywhere in the world...  You know I had that trip to Papa New Guinea planned...

I will be posting a final agenda shortly . . . looks like it will be Windsor on Friday night, and Detroit on Saturday afternoon (meeting up with DetroitDad).  Firm dates soon, I promise.

Sir,

Don't rush setting times on my account. I already spoke with the wife, and informed her that the day is being set aside for food and gambling.

Is smoking allowed in poker rooms in Detroit?  I know that the new smoking ban has an exception for the casino floor, but don't know if that applies to the poker room or not.

I like Windsor because the entire casino is smoke-free.

the only detroit room that ever allowed smoking was greektown, and it was limited to one half of the room (dont ask, it had some semi-retarded border inside). mgm is/was very clean, and motor city is just sooooo cramped. nice, but cramped. i think i like mgm the best. its a little smaller, but not crowded. isolated from the rest of the casino by elevator, with its own restroom, and its right next to the sushi bar/nightclub. afaik, smoking is still allowed in the casinos proper, but the cardrooms at mgm and motor city have always been smoke free.
