Do you play better or worse when you're the dedicated dealer?

I find I'm playing worse when I'm the dedicated dealer. Either that, or I keep dealing myself crap cards and we really need a new dedicated dealer.

I don't know if it really affects my play all that much, but I'm realizing lately that I'm a horrible dealer.  I misdeal often, can't keep track of the action, and you can just forget about calculating side-pots.

I think it takes away from my play atleast a little bit. You have to pay enough attention to be correct in what you do, and that takes away from paying attention to your reads and how other players are acting.

worse. i'm thinking of too many things at the same time and can't focus on playing my hand as well as without holding the deck. but IMO it's almost marginal because i deal it for a living. it's fun pitching cards accurately from the horn on an oval table - not everyone can do it.

I think I'm playing better, because I don't get restless waiting for my turn to act and I keep good track of what actions the other players do. I also think it keeps me from giving tells.


And of course I can deal myself better cards from the bottom! :-)

Amen.................I struggle as is to play solid cards, let alone if I was the dedicated dealer. Of course, i don't think the table would let me. I suck a$$ at dealing

Hands that you're the DD are a great time to run a bluff, after all if you've got to deal cards, manage the pot, etc., you're only going to play a big pot with a big hand, right?

We've been lucky in our game. If the dealer gets involved in a big pot, someone who folded will usually take the deck and deal the cards on the end.
