It's crunch time in River City; my last big assignment for the year - a 5 minute oral presentation that I have to know by heart, completely in Korean - is due on Thursday, and I only halfway know the first two of the four pages I need to know.  I'm stressing big time right now, because this will be for a big chunk of my grade.  It may possibly mean the difference between a 3.5 and a 4.0; and yeah, I know it's not about the grade but...it's about the grade.  And about pride in doing well.  And the grade.  So, any good thoughts you have to spare would be a very good thing right about now.

Well, all I can offer are good thoughts, since my memory is aweful. You've had a great year, concentrated all your effort on school. You'll be fine. Another few days hard work and you'll have it. What's our motto, I always say to my five year old... "Never give up."

Good luck, but more importantly, congratulations!  You should be proud of yourself for tackling this challenge and doing so well with it.  I'm sure your schedule has been a busy one, but I'm sure your husband and son are very proud of what you are accomplishing.  Good luck on the test.  You've already earned a 4.0 in our book.

This is exactly why my students never give "oral presentations" in school.  We give verbal presentations or just presentations.....never oral presentations ....

Not quite.  I have a final that won't play as much impact on my grade, and we have show-and-tell tomorrow (I was asked to perform the Sijo that I wrote).   But the bulk of the work is done.

Just as I was rejoicing over the end of this semester, I got an email from my Theater professor (I'm taking an online course on - get this - Musical Theater this summer) saying that I should get ready for a very busy summer in his class.

It's cool that you're also taking Musical Theater, but I'm curious, how does one take an online course in Musical Theater?   Is it just a requirement to own a laptop and sing in the shower?

I just read through the syllabus.  It is going to kick my butt.  I have to watch West Side Story (done and done), Rent (I borrowed the movie, but the class requires the filmed version of the play), read the WSS script, write five papers, take four tests, and do some research.  This. Will. Be. Interesting.

On a good note, though, I didn't do as well as I hoped in the actual oral presentation, but I kicked booty in today's Chekgeori (책거리), a traditional end-of-school-year party that emulates what Korean students get from their parents: basically, food and an audience to see what you've learned over the past year.  I recited the Korean sijo (short form poem) I wrote this semester, and only had some minor stutters, so I feel good about it.  And I'm stuffed.  I feel very good right now.

I have to confess that I've done that again this semester.  I only needed 186 points to have a guaranteed 4.0, and I'm at 190 right now (the last day of the semester), without having turned in the final paper on the musical Rent (that would put me over the max 200 points if I got all 15 allotted points.  I got 8 points for an extra credit paper on the Tony Awards).  Part of me wants to blow it off, since the paper won't count toward anything; I can't get any higher than 4.0.  But part of me wants to buckle down and watch the show (I'm a natural-born procrastinator) and do the paper tonight.  I have till midnight to turn it in.  Still struggling over it.

Wow....did it again y'all.  Every semester since coming back to school in Fall 2009, I've received a 4.0 for my classes.  And I'm officially 10 credits - three classes - away from graduation.
