With the summer coming up, i decided to build a new table and hopefully start a steady game. My first table does the job, but i built it with barely any experience and even less research. After spending hours at the scott keen forum, I am extremely confident in my table building capabilities.

So today i drew up my plans so i could get it done in a day when all the supplies come.

I'll take lots of pics during the build and will use this thread to record my progress.

Wish me luck!

EDIT -

FINAL EXPENSE TOTAL: $335.06 Not including shipping or %15 discount using scottkeen promo code

   - T-Nuts & bolts
   - Folding Table Legs
   - Washers
   - Ryobi Jigsaw

If you put anywhere near as much care into building it as you have drawing up the plans, this will be one heck of a table!  Wink

f you don't find this too personal, would you mind keeping a tally of the expenses you incur during the build?  It'd be nice to see how much a DIY table costs in comparison to purchasing a ready-made...assuming you live in the US, of course.   Grin

Sure. I'll update the OP whenever I encounter an expense towards the build.

I got my vinyl sample chart today so i've been fiddling with color combos. Let me know what you guys think:

Chocolate SSC and Cappuccino

Blackberry SSC and Brick/Rouge/Claret

Bronze SSC and Taupe

Chocolate SSC and Mocha/Hazelnut/Fudge

I really like the Blackberry cloth - is there a darker rail color you could put with it?

Yea it's beginning to grow on me too. There is a darker color but only in the Whisper variety (merlot or Sangre). I like the Symphony vinyl because it feels more like leather and has a nicer grain too.

Is there a reason for not going with leather, besides price? Harder to work with etc?
Just wondering, some day I might try this too^^

In my experiences with leather (I install aftermarket auto interiors, so i have quite a bit), it doesn't stretch well and it's a little thicker than vinyl. It just wouldn't be worth using expensive leather just so one could say 'the rail is REAL vinyl.

Stick with vinyl. There is a 50% coupon at Joanns good until the 15th. I am getting ready to build 2 more tables the end of this month. I am building a platinum and royal blue.

This project will be put on hold for a while. I have some car repairs that need to be addressed before i start building a table that will see a handful of play per year.

The only thing I do not like about the blackberry is it looks dusty after awhile. The blackberry and midnight blue both do it. After a few months they look like they have a layer of dust on them. I have cleaned mine several times and they still look dusty. My favorite is the platinum. I have platinum and gold being delivered this week for a couple of tables. Gold is a color I have not used yet. I always use a black rail. A black rail really makes the red pop with the blacberry cloth. Goes with everything and always looks good. I like using marine vinyl. It is a little more durable and looks good longer. You can use your leftover wood and build drink carts or a dealer cart. I made a dealers cart with a drop
box, chip tray. And cup holder for the dealer. I use it to store all of my poker supplies. How are you cutting your wood? What kind of wood are you using? How are you bracing the table? Let me know if you need info. The two I am working on are either 29 and 30 or 30 and 31 for me. I do not like the headliner as a foam. It breaks Down quick and soon it will sound like your chips are bouncing off the wood.

I'll be using a jigsaw to cut the wood.  It just won't be cost effective for me to male a template and buy a router for just one table. My friend has a jigsaw that I can borrow.  I think the wood I'm goin to use is called imported birch.

I don't think the headliner foam should be a problem. Maybe if I was hosting a game once a week for the next 5 years but if I get to host a game once a month I'll be lucky.

I had platinum on my last table and the basemEnt just got redone so the chocolate and tan vinyl will work well with the decor of the new basement.

I use birch for all of my tables also. I used a jigsaw for the first 3 or 4 tables I built. Works well just takes longer. If you cut a rail lip the gap is tight. I used to cut 1/8 inch off around the table to make it easier to get the rail on and off.

Yea i plan on using an electric sander to take a few fractions of an inch from the diameter so the rail doesn't fit too snug.

Well i got my fabric and foam today and snapped a quick pic of the combination. The Chocolate SSC looks a little funny in the pic from the way the light was hitting it. Looking directly at it, it looks chocolate. But at an angle, it looks black. I plan on building it this weekend if the weather is nice.

Chocolate and British Tan

Very nice!  And a pint of Guinness in the cup holder will compliment the color palate quite well!   Grin

I finished my gos and platinum tAbles this weekend and noticed that the gold has a green tint. Can't see it in the sample but real noticable on the full table. Still looks good.

Just got back from Home Depot for some hardware for the table including T-nuts, bolts, washers, table legs and a jigsaw. Saturday's weather shows clear blue skies and a high in the mid 70s.

OP updated for new totals

May I ask how much the table hardware was without the jigsaw?

I ask only because I already have one, (it's an old hand-me-down so I don't know how much it cost), and am interested in what the table hardware alone would cost.

It can't be more than $20. The bolts were .19 each, washers .11 each and a pack of 4 t-nuts was $1.98
