Preferably you're the first one into the pot. If no one else had acted first I would say that AQ suited is plenty good enough to get it in the middle. As it stands, I would personally make a reluctant fold in that spot. A raise from UTG shrinks that hand up though. You're on the button and have most of an orbit to be the first one into the pot, with ATC if necessary.

As much as I hate to disagree with Martini, I think this looks pretty standard.
Nice hand, but I'm guessing it's a bad result...

according to how i play...i have 6.5 orbits left,  im looking to shove over the top of any raise here.  i still think this is the proper play here.  im deep in this tourney...im not looking to move up one more spot on the pay scale at this point im looking for spots to pick up more chips to make a run at the final table at this point.  i think the situation here dictates the way i played this hand.  yes UTG raised...but he has raised the 3rd time in the past orbit.  AQ may look marginal here, but i feel u dont make deep runs in  tourneys by folding this and looking for a better hand.

The detail about him raising that often was left out from the OP. I know you only have 6.5 orbits left but when you are that short you're looking to get first in vig. I would rather shove with two live cards than call with a possibly dominated hand. As it stands, even if MP2 is sure that he is dominated he is priced in to call and potentially suck out.

folding AQs, to shove ATC a hand or two later doesn't make much sense to me, unless the pfr is a total nit, your ahead or in good shape often enough, add the dead money from the flat, and that the pot size already contains close to 1/2 your stack I'm getting this in all day.

EDIT: If he had ATs and you won, would there still be a thread...

I think you made the right play here to be honest. I don't like just calling with aq in this spot, you'd be putting about 1/5 of your chips in waiting to see the flop. Push here is the best option IMO.

Barring a dead read on the raiser, this is an immediate shove, and a reluctant call if you're really in a cautious mood.
