just some thoughts on this situation...

Table full of regs, two weaker players at the table everyone else is TAG.

I am in the BB. it is 2/3 NLHE

action preflop

Fold, fold, raise to $18, fold fold, fold, fold, fold, SB raises to $42.

MP is good player - TAG but the LAG end of TAG so will open with some high suited connectors etc...that raise has him on top end cards AK, AQs 99+  as it is a significant raise his normal raise is like $10 (ie to 13) this is to$18 so an additional $5.

SB is a TAG but the rock end of TAG.  he is on JJ+ for sure.

I am in the BB with AA.

My actual action was to raise to $120 which commits everyone to the pot if they call and all of us are more likely to shove.

Both folded - SB folded showing his hand.

the thought is that should i have only called knowing there was only two people in the pot and given that I have AA and are likley at least 65ish% favourite at this stage.

if I assume that MP has that range there is only one hand he is not re-raising with me only calling.  But the entire likely range is foldable to my 3 bet (assuming he didnt have AA cause he folded).  At the time I 3 bet cause I figured that rock boy (at that stage I pegged him more as a Laggy TAG) would shove over the top with his entire re-raising range knowing he was probably on JJ+ but unlikely to be AA given i had two.

SB folded showing KK.  both had stacks bigger than mine.

I feel like i lost money in this hand, but am happy I won basically $50 and with no sweat.

We need the stack sizes, also what do these players think of you, if you cold call the 3b will they assume your just being dumb with KQs or some crap, or will it look like QQ+ or even KK+

Generally cold calling OOP should not be part of your game, so when you do it, it will arise suspicion, perhaps not at live 2/3 and probably not vs a rock's 3b but you should have some 3b'ing image and a cold 4b bluff should be in your arsenal so a cold 4b here shouldn't snap fold out KK, and nothing worse is really stacking off when you 4b anyway, so I'd just 4b, or depending on stack sizes just 4b/ship, essentially do whatever gives you the widest perceived range possible.

EDIT: lol, either your image is sh%t, or that KK guy is a scared nit, or perhaps someone who has a tell on you  Cheesy

If he's 3b'ing JJ+, but only calling with AA, you should 4b him a ton.

JJ+ AK+ is 3% of hands
AA is 0.5% of hands

Depending on stack sizes I would 4b shove something like A5s here, a hand where u have not so terrible equity in case the other guy decides to call you with KK, or 4b/f to the nits ship.

When someone who has shown themselves to be a decent player comes in for that 3bet preflop there are very few hands they have and they are all Aces. Small blind made an excellent lay down there and showed you two things.

1 he is probably more tight than you realize.

2 that kind of tightness is exploitable.

It doesn't matter if they understand what your up to, in fact that makes it better, if some fish will call a 3b with T9o, 3b with KQs for value, if some nit will fold everything but KK-AA to a 3b, 3b him with anything until he starts calling.

and fyi, 3b'ing only aces is very very very very bad.

Actually i didnt say i 3b with on AA.

I said online wide range...live less.  this is pretty normal in my experience.

I also play the player...as you suggets...

I guess the OP was really more that I was shocked that he didnt just ship it.

I think I would be more likely to 3 bet him now but he is onto it he will know that now i will do that as well so i would think he would adjust immediately too.

Cheers
