First off, you will notice that this isn't a "Bankroll Management" thread.

First, the update.

A couple of months ago I hosted a cash game. I cleared 150 on the night. I decided to have a friend put the 150 online and transfer it to me. I had decided that I wasn't going to go crazy with it, but that playing .01/.02 stakes just wasn't for me. I'm not good enough to adjust to that specific skill level.

I started playing .05/.10, and I decided I would do that until I reached 200. Then I would switch to .10/.25 (which I'm much more comfortable playing).

In the first 2-3 weeks, I took the 150 up to 190, down to 117, and back up to 200. Once I hit 200, I switched to .10/.25. I have taken the 200, up to 246.

For the most part I have been real happy with my play. Only once have I been felted. It was my fault. I played a hand I shouldn't have, out of position, hit a piece, and got carried away. I deserved it.

I have only set myself a couple of rules.

1. If I double up, no matter how juicey the table is, I cash out (at the end of the orbit) and join another table with a $25 buy in
2. I will play no more than 3 tables, usually only one or two.
3. If I can't play for at least one hour, I'm not going to sit at a table.

If I think of more rules as I play I will add/edit them. I will use this thread to question my play, my hands, ect...

I'm almost exclusively playing NLHE Cash. If I want to mix it up, I will join a tourney here and there, mostly PLO or PLO8 tourneys.

The reason for Rule #1, when I build up a big chipstack, my hand range opens up, and I tend to lose money. This also happens when I play Live, but I am improving on it. For whatever reason, online its even worse for me (not blaming online, its all me, lol).

I have played with Loopy a few times at the .05/.10 tables. I enjoy having an HPT'er at the table to chat with. I think it helps me play better as well.

I will try and check the stats button before I leave so I know how many hands I play, but I don't always remember to do that.

Thank you for your time.

I hear this a lot on here, and tbh I think its pretty terrible, could u please explain why you would wish to do this. The only reason I would leave when I double up, is if  a better player with postion on me is also deep and is willing to put me in tought spots.

Otherwise being deep at a table is a huge advantage, what happens if the drooler doubles up via another player, now u have a great shot at winning a 200bb pot, there may even be a bigger fish on another table, but being deep should make this v.profitable for you. If everyone else is 100bb deep your not protecting your stack anyway, as you can only loose what they have, if your on a short roll, u could even just mine IO hands vs the deep fish.

EDIT: Didn't finish reading your post to see you reason lol, whatever works for you, gl

I can see his point on this one...I tend to be like dd sometimes in the fact that my hand range opens up when i get a larger stack. Its a habit that i'm slowly breaking, but it happens.

Lucky,

your absolutely right, and when I learn to play the right way with a deeper stack I will adjust the rule. As of now, the more money I have behind me, the more hands I play, the more I chase, ect.....Until I master it, I will follow the rule I posted.

Just got done playing for the last 1.5 hours or so. I two tabled. I joined a .10/.25 NLHE table, bought in for 25 (I only play the 50 BB min tables). I didn't quite double up before cashing out ($48). I was just getting tired (worked all day today). I flopped a couple of sets, got paid off both times. I don't think I really played any hands bad. I lost with Pocket Aces to runner/runner straight. I was trying to let him catch up to me (just not that much, lol). It was very flop friendly, oh well. He paid me off later with all his chips when I flopped trip Aces.

Big Hand of the night though was A/Q. UTG +2 bets 1, I call, One other caller. Flop comes Q, J, 5. He checks, I bet 3.5, he raises to 6. I think for a second. Contemplate throwing it away. I have played with him for over an hour, seen some garbage show down (calling and betting pre with K/9, J/5 suited, ect...). He could be playing about anything. I think my hand is good. Since I think its good, I re raise. all in (we both started the hand with about 21 bucks). He calls after about 10 seconds and shows pocket 6's. My A/Q holds up. Confused me.......oh well.

Started the night with 244, ended the night at 271.

Oh, I also joined a PLO cash table (.01/.02) with Paul, mainly just to B.D. with him. I bought in for 3, cashed out at almost 9. Very easy money.

Nice night sir.  Fun to sit at the table with you and chat a bit.

And for the record, I wasn't the easy money D was talking about Wink  But that table did suck.  Between the 2 of us we had over $20 on the table playing 1¢/2¢ (I bought in for $5, DD for $3 so + ~$12; ~600 big blinds).

Negative variance is kicking my ass today. Twice I have had Pocket Aces, both times lost to a flopped set of 4's and 5's.........yikes......

What sites do you play?
I play on FullTilt and poker stars.
Full doesn't have a 50bb option and on stars when i click the 50bb button I see no tables
I'm tweedamp on full and rick360 on stars.
Are you Detroitdad online?
I just started online play again after a brief vacation. I take bad beats personally. javascript:void(0);One of many holes in my game.

I do this becasue of roll management.  you only risk 5% of your roll on a table at a time so why would you stick when you have 10% of your roll when you can cash out and come back on to a table wiht 5% and bank your 5% gain.

Of course I also understand if your crushing a table then you want to stay and take full advantage of it but you if you have stacked someone they are less likely to stack of against you again and the fact is to stack someone you need to get their entire stack and yours....so your doubling your risk on the table with the double up of money.

Playing deep doesnt really change, your playing 50BB DD anyway and the difference to 100BB is not that great IMHO. yoru still going to call down the short stacks with a decent hand and if it works to keep you tight then do it.

I'm slowly recovering my bankroll. I had it up to approx. 291, then down to about 100. Its currently at 120. I lost most of it in the .10/.25 NLHE tables. Aces were brutal to me.

I dropped to .05/.10 PLO and PLO8 and am slowly getting back on track.

I will be playing for a little bit tonight if you want some easy money. I'm currently at a NLHE table waiting for a seat at a PLO8 table.

Bought in for 6 bucks last night in a PLO game (.05/.10). Doubled up in an hour, then went to bed.

Bought in for 10 today, same game/stakes. Played for about 2 hours. cashed out at 13. The highest it was at was 14. I don't think I ever dropped below my buy in.

Its up to 136

Played some PLO with NFA last night. Bought in for ten, cashed out at 14.5. I think we played for a couple of hours. For most of it I didn't get any playable hands in the right situations (have to be careful at .05/.10 stakes).

I made most of my money in the last 30 minutes. However I turned on The Wrestler, I was so captivated by Rourke, and the movie that I had to quit playing and watch the flick.

Thanks for joining in NFA.

Rourke does a stellar job. I had recorded it a few months ago from free HBO. Almost just deleted it because something about it didn't say "Hey, watch me"..............I decided to throw it on last night and it was good enough to stop me from playing online and focus on the movie.

You'll get there...it's so hard to make a final table in fields that big...but cashing is a start. Good job and good luck in the future.

DD are you on p*?

I assume so.

Interesting reading.

if your playing PLO you want to double up your rules so like only take on 2.5% of your roll as the variance is much bigger.

its tough when those losses mean more to you when your roll is not large enough to sustain a 20+buy in losing streak.   mine isnt either and i tend to just bobble up and down around the same roll until I hit a luck streak...but eventually that reverses and your back to winning 2bb/100 on average or even less.

I hate playing micro stakes, but if I'm going to do it, PLO is the best (most fun for me), and the easiest way to make money. If you can't fold big hands, you can't play PLO at this level, lol.............(Big Hands on the Flop without chances of improving).

As you guys know, my recent Final Table finish in a large 6 max tourney has gotten my BR back in order,

That win took my account to 202.

I lost a few bucks last night in a quick .05/.10 PLO session where I would flop several nut draws, chase, then not get there. Some bad hands, some bad play, and just not catching the cards.

I'm just finishing up an hour session of NLHE this morning, .05/.10. Bought in for 8, cashing out at 18. Account is about 206 or so.

Lost three $10 buy in's..............should have known it was going to be rough.

First hand I pick up A/A...........1 raiser to .40, two callers. I make it 1.50. Only the original caller completes. Flop is 2, 4, 7 rainbow. He checks, I bet 3. He pushes, I call, he shows 7/8, and rivers an 8 to felt me.

sh%t happens................
