Well, I have not been on here in a while, mostly because of school, but I have found some time to get to Vegas in a couple weeks over the Thanksgiving holiday. I have probably only played about four tourneys in the past year, and even less time at the cash games, so I am beyond rusty, but hopefully it will all come back to me when I get out there. Poker is like riding a bike, right?

Anyway, we are staying at Bally's, arriving mid afternoon on Nov 21. The game plan, in a nutshell, is to eat sushi, play mixed game or some combination of stud and omaha if we can find it. The more detailed plan is this:

(using info from allvegaspoker.com)

Poker:
-Last time the Mirage had a great stud game at night, we are hoping we can find that again, I think it was 1-5 spread limit Stud Hi. I remember playing for like six hours and getting free breakfast. Does anybody know if that is still going on? Also, the site listed an occasional 4-8 Omaha/8 game, but  I don't really know how "occasional" it is....
-Harrah's supposedly has a regular mixed game going on, but then in the notes section it says Wed nights at 7pm. Anybody got more info?
-There was a really good 4-8 Limit HORSE game at the Monte Carlo that we liked, once again the site just says Thurs but I was wondering if anybody knew if it got together any other night?
-The Venetian also lists a 4-8 Omaha/8 game, and I really liked the room, but that was a tough crowd the last time I went. Anybody played this game there and know about it?
-I heard there are some 9 player SnGs somewhere (on the Strip) for like 25 bucks, any truth to this?

Food:
-Two stops are mandatory: Yellowtail at the Bellagio and Red Sushi at the Golden Nugget. We went to Sushi Roku at the forum shops last time and I really liked it. Any other sushi lovers that fond something at Vegas?
-I have heard tales of an Italian restaurant that serves "free wine" with the entree, supposedly near/on the Strip. I was told it was also very good...anybody know about it? I know that is really vague, but it's worth a shot...
-Favorite steakhouses? I could go for a good steak one night...

Any other recommendations? I got a lot of the site-seeing out of the way last time, so I thought this time around I could spend more time at a fewer of the more interesting places and not worry about trying to see the whole town.

We are leaving Wed at noon, so we have essentially four days and nights. I was thinking we would spend one day downtown and the rest on the Strip, and probably one day playing some tourneys, but the rest of the time will probably be devoted to cash game.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Comments?

For any of the "non-Hold'em" games you want to play, try to get the poker room numbers, call ahead and ask to start a list with your group at the top. The list my drum up interest and they may have enough to spread you game by the time you arrive. Finding a stud game at the Mirage should not be too tough, just expect to be the youngest at the table if you're under say, oh I dunno, 60.

The restaraunt with the "free wine" is Battaglia's, down the block and behind Bill's Gamblin Hall. Dark Italian joint. Hope you like accordian music.

If you're driving in you can use your car, but if you're flying in, check the CAT bus schedule and use that to get from the airport to the strip and the Deuce to and from downtown. $2 each way to ride the bus, $6 to ride the Deuce, beats a rental car.

Its been a long time since I was there.  like nearly two years

if your looking for cash games in stud and omaha i would have thought the rooms like Ceaser's, Venetian, Bellagio are more likely than the smaller card rooms.

But that said its vegas.  I was there on a monday night through wednesday morning after a long weekend.  the monday was crowded until late evening in most of the rooms I looked through.  i did not play cash I only played a tourney or two.  one at Excalibur and one at Ceaser's

I then played another on the Wednesday at planet hollywood.

Tuesday we were out of Vegas for a drive to the canyon.

but I found that the bigger rooms were doing good trade and therefore were spreading alot of the less played games (back then) like omaha.

the smaller rooms had 1 or 2 tables of NLHE only mostly.

I didnt check the old vegas rooms at all or the station casinos.

What I did notice was that although allvegas is a great reference point the casinos move stuff so often that you cant really rely on times and stuff and it is best to call ahead to just check the go that day.

of course the most important thing is have fun and what happens in vegas means you visit the doctor for specific medication later...lol.

Cheers

The Mirage is your best bet for non-hold'em games. The Venetian is holding its Deepstack tournaments during November so the room will be busy and there is a good chance for non-hold'em games.

Del Frisco's steakhouse (near Flamingo & Paradise) or Delmonico's steakhouse in the Venetian for a good steak ($50). The Venetian has a free lunch buffet for poker players during its Deepstack tournaments.

Good luck, nutn

Sorry it's after your trip but if you want sushi in Vegas try Todai in the Planet Hollywood mall.  Register at todai.com the week before you leave and they will email you a $5 coupon.  Lunch is better value than the dinner.
