Collage Style Racetrack

I want to build a poker table with a racetrack.  I want to glue down cut up strips of old movie posters and then coat them with shellac or something.  I don't want condensation or water to be a problem.  Any tips on what to use to adhere the paper to the plywood track and what to use to give it a smooth finish I thought of glass but that would be too expensive.

I don't know but I'd start by looking up decoupage and seeing if you can get advice from the local craft store.

Also, my guess would be polyurethane coating would do the trick for the finishing.
