Took the wife & kids down for the day yesterday... They were agreeable to walking the Boardwalk & shops/Piers while I played some poker ...
The Showboat Casino's larger & relocated, about 1 year ago, House of Blues poker room, is now located on the main Boardwalk level, to the right as soon as you enter from the Boardwalk.
Chips are house mold Paulsons with large inlays, Cards were House backed Plastic Gemacos, bridge-sized of course.
Plenty of room between tables, window views of the Boardwalk.
I wanted to play 2/5NL , but there was only 3 on the interest board, so I sat at 1/2NL with $240 which was open seating. Memorable hands: * About 20 mins in, I pick up
A/4 spades. Flop comes
Ks-9s-2d, Player to my right bets, I call. Turn is
10s, I have the nut flush. Player makes large bet, I call. River is
5s, Player bets, I raise, he goes all-in. I call.
He flips J/Qs for a straight flush, play stops while the Floor comes over to give him a $20 food comp for hitting a straight flush.
I rebuy.
* A few hands later , with
J/J, I raise to $12 & get 4 callers including villian guy-on-right. Flop comes
J-3-3. Full house! It checks around. Turn is a
7, I bet, & all except StraightFlush Villian fold. River is a rag, I bet & he raises, I call. He shows the pocket 3's for Quads.
* In another hand , I get
Pocket 7's. I raise. Mr. Villian calls. Flop comes
J-7-9. "I'm gonna get him this time", I say to myself...
I check the flop, hoping he bets, but he checks also. Turn is another
jack, now I have 7's full, & straights, flushes & trips can't hurt me, but I'm paranoid & need to end this hand now, before I lose to quads, some bigger boat.... or ... something, so I make a $20 bet, he calls. I'm putting him on a jack, for trip jacks.
The river comes another
9, for a board of
J-7-9-J-9 & I'm holding pocket 7's .. Crap!, what now? If he hit this board at all, (which his betting pattern seems to indicate), my boat is worthless, his boat is bigger, or he really has quads again. I make a "value bet" hoping he'd go away .. & no, instead he raises.... I decide fold face up, to the amazement of the table.
"You wanna see it" he says. "Sure, show me the bluff, I'm comfortable w/ my fold either way."
He shows me his pocket fours.
Most of the table agreed they would have folded as well, except 1 bad player who had been telling everyone who folded & showed that he "wouldn't have folded that" ...
Other memory - Mr. "I-wouldn't-fold-that" Bad player, 2nd on my left, would occasionally lift his cards up from the side before looking at them, giving me a flash .. Oddly, most of the times it was Ace-rag, & I noticed he always played any ace, for a limp 1st, & would call most raises. He eventually lost all his chips to a big hand, betting & calling raises to the river on some sort of low/mid cards flush & straight board, hoilding just A/K off. He "never would have folded that" I guess.
I played for about 3 hours total, Won some good pots, almost got back to even at one point, but was down for the session, due to the 2 or 3 hands Mr. McFoodComp StraightQuadFlush Villian got me for.
Went with the family to the ShowBoat buffet, & then drove the 2 & a half hours back home.
I felt fine about my play overall, .... Losing nut flush on an unpaired board to straight flush, & Boat to quads, is often a "nothing you can do there" situation...
