Review - One Eyed Jacks - Sarasota, FL

The card room was located at the dog track, Sarasota Kennel Club.  I visited on a Thursday from 7 to midnight and the next night Saturday from 4pm to 1am.  They offered pretty much all limits and all games of poker.  I only played 1/2 nl.  There was a min/max buy in of $60.  I have never started so low but figured I would give it a shot.  First night I walked out $350 up.  Night after I walked out $80 down for the night.  Grand total of $270 profit for the two days.  I'll write a few hands.  Compliments/criticisms welcomed.

First big hand

Pocket tens.  Raised $10, 2 callers.  Flop was Jd, 10d, 4s.  First to act goes all in for about $40.  I had about $50 so I went ahead and pushed it all in.  3rd player calls.  I'm thinking cooler.  First player had q high flush draw and other guy had AJ.  4d hit the turn and it was all over.

Second big hand

About $140 in front of me.  Pocket Aces under the gun.  I raise it $10.  It folds around to the big blind.  He raises to $50 total.  He was very tight and didn't play many hands.  I thought he had a big hand so I went ahead and pushed all in.  He shrugged his shoulders and reluctantly calls.  Pocket kings.  Board brought nothing.

Next hand (not a very big hand)

Big blind, pocket aces again.  A couple limps to the dealer.  He pushes for about $15.  I flat call hoping for some stragglers.  No one calls.  He hits a straight on the river.  Wasn't that upset.  Just thankful my aces held up the hand before.

Third big hand

Pocket Aces (FYI, I was playing other hands, just happened to get the most action with my big hands).  At this point I had about $300 in front of me.  Big stack at the table.  I raised to $10 second to act.  Next player raised to $25.  Player after that raises to $50.  Player after that calls.  I raise all in.  All three call.  I'm thinking, oh boy, I need to fade 3 players with aces.  Can it be done??  First player to raise had JJ, second player to raise had AK, third player who flat called all the way had, wait for it...........6h8h.  Flop brought a gut shot for 68.  Turn and river were blanks.  3 players felted on one hand.

Only semi major mistake I made all night

I raised to $10 with AQ offsuit.  Player reraised to $30.  I flat call.  Flop is AAK.  Player who reraised went all in for $80 more.  After thinking about it for a while and trying to get some info out of the guy I folded.  (I now wish/realized I should have called)  Only one hand that can beat me.  Should have beat to see it.  Oh well.

Second night

Total loosy goosy play.  Armature night.  My stack was like the stock market.  Highs and lows.  Held pretty steady at $140 all night.  Only hand that really mattered.

I raised preflop with AJ to $10.  Big blind flat calls.  Flop is KQ10.  Beautiful.  I raised $10.  He reraised to $50 flat.  Beautiful.  I reraised all in.  He immediately put his chips together and began pushing forward.  Me, not thinking, flip my cards over before his chips pass the line.  Big mistake.  He stops for a second.  "doesn't matter, I call".  He turns over KQ.  I have his covered by $3.  Turn is a blank.  River hit a queen.  All I can do is shake my head.

Questions/comments/ridicule is welcomed.

FYI, You know you are addicted to chips, when people you hardly know pick up chips and are willing to ship them to you for free cause you are such an addict.

Rose, I have a $.50 and $1 chip that are yours if you pm me your address.

The poker room there is relatively new.... I have not been up there but occasionally the run some nice tournaments and I hear it is a nice room.

I know a half dozen people that went up and had a blast @ a $1000 HORSE event they had a while ago!
