I clean my suited speed cloth with a steam cleaner and or mild deluded soapy water. After it drys it looks bran new but when we start playing on it finger nails leave white lines. HELP!
I am thinking like a light spray of swede protector or a 2nd coat of scotch guard.

Never seen this. I have used a steam cleaner to clean my tables before, but I do not remember white lines being left from fingers. I would almost think that it is the finger nail and not the cloth that is the problem. Let me know if you figure something out.

Could it be a residue from the soap?

That was my thought - maybe the "cleaning" didn't rinse it well enough.  Maybe run over it again with distilled water and nothing else.

I think you both could be right, my dealer is a chick with long nails and I don't' think I rinse it good enough. I am going to go over it a couple more times and see what happens. If all fails i am going to re felt. P.S my felt is royal blue

I never used soap in my cleaning, just soft water. Depending on how short you trimmed your cloth you can place it in a washer. I have done this and it turned out great, but it unravelled quite a bit and shrunk a little. I had enough to place back on the table and trim down, but it wouldnt fit if I tried it again. Would not be to bad if I had stitched all of the edges to prevent the unravelling.

I have a black on black suited speed cloth and have the same white scratches left by finger nails. Not soap residue as I only clean it with warm water. It might be the teflon coating wearing off. Gonna give it a good wash and spray some scoth guard and see what happens

I've always cleaned mine with a brush (and vacuum if its really bad).  Never used anything liquid, except of course beer & whiskey

Well you managed to strip your cloth of its teflon completly

the white residue you are seeing is actually , acrylic, its what they use as a backing on the cloth

your steam actually liquified your acrylic backing and you sucked it up through the cloth to the top side of the cloth

the white residue is your acrylic backing.

hey you alls

DO NOT EVER EVER USE A STEAM CLEANER TO CLEAN YOUR CLOTH

Hi!

Maybe you can help me as well.. I have now used my felt for over a year and it has seen a few gaming nights.

Now the last night some guy with sticky fingers, managed to get some larger spots on the felt  Sad

So i took a towel warm water and tried to remove it carfully but it didnt work. Actually I think the water made it worse, because I have now some "darker" spots there from the water.

Before I make it even worse, any advise from you?

-- Since its my first table it's not that much of a problem but maybe I can safe the felt and gain some experience for my second table which I will undoubtly build sooner or later... and hopefully it will look much better than my first attempt.

Lightly Moisten the spot with mild i repeat.... mild soap and water, and grab a nice cotton bath hand towell,

get a dry iron with the heat set on a scale of 1- 10 of about a 8

lay the dry towell over the moisten cloth and iron the top of the towell,

this will produce a " wicking" action

reposition the cloth to keep absorbing up the moisture and the goo

If you have an extremely stubborn stain, use club soda, instead of water for your cleaning solution.

the bubbly stuff will help release the stain

hope this helps.

THanks for the advise I will try it out soon. I think proper cleaning of the felt shuld actually become a main section on the site. Everyone needs to do it and to have the "right" advice from official source would be really good!

Making a statement like that sounds pretty uncalled for to me....and he can't even spell properly to try and put down the HPT members.
