I have been wondering the same thing for a while now. I wrote an email to the company and I got a auto response back saying he is on vacation and will be back on the 18 of July. So hopefully we will find out by then if not sooner.

I just finished my first table last week with my father in law. It came out pretty nice and we are looking to make a second table but to take things a step further. Maybe including lights and if possible that Shuffle Master Deck Mate. Let me know if you here anything.

I've did some research on the shuffle master and "heard" that they are leased to the casinos but prices may start in the 5 digit range.
This is just word of mouth information so don't take it to heart.

Ouch. Thats pretty pricey. It would be nice to have though. I know if I walked into a regular home game and saw a table with the shuffle master I would know I was walking into a real game.

It seems by the web site, this is not even available for not casino purchase:
"Shuffle Master, Inc. is a licensed gaming supply company which provides products to casino customers. Due to the fact Shuffle Master is in a highly regulated industry, it is the Company's policy not to sell our equipment to unlicensed individuals or organizations. At this time, Shuffle Master does not offer a consumer-model shuffler."
Even if it was, it looks like it would be quite expensive for a home poker table.

My guess would be that ShuffleMaster wants to be able to tell the Casinos (thier biggest clients) that since these are not available to the public there is no way to rig one for cheating.
In thoery if I bought one of these and took it apart I could possibly figure out how it shuffles and then use that to an advantage when playing against the Casino.

It shuffles by reading every card as it checks the deck for all 52 cards. When it reads each specific card the computer's random number generator then assigns the card a specific spot in the deck. The counted deck then moves up and down in the shuffler placing each card in its previously assigned position. That's basically how the shufflemaster works, much like its 6 deck blackjack counterpart also offered by DeckMate.

I wasn't aware that it actually read each card...
I'd be happy with one of the older shufflemasters...

Hi Guys,
Shufflemaster will sell only to folks that have a gaming license, no public sales. Another thing that sucks is that they police the web religiously so it's very hard to find a used one. Sucks for us who have home games but anyone that works in random-ness will tell you that nothing is random and if someone got one of these to study they could cripple a casino.

Shufflemaster is now available to the public. From the corporate site......"Shuffle Master, Inc. is a licensed gaming supply company that provides products to casino customers. Due to the fact Shuffle Master is in a highly regulated industry, we generally do not sell our equipment to unlicensed individuals or organizations however, we have recently begun offering our Deck Mate® poker shuffler for private purchase and use for $14,795. Not available for purchase in Colorado, New Jersey, Washington or Texas."
Holy Moly $14,795
I really thought one would be a sharp item for my home games - considered paying couple hundred bucks for one.
Someday..........

You can save $14,000 by buying pre-shuffled cards found at all fine retailers. Yes, they started selling to the public 3 or 4 months ago, yes they are $15,000. No, I will not be getting one.

I know of at least one casino that has them, and they did not pay for the hardware. Instead, they ding the casino a recurring fee (don't know if it is per shuffle, per month, or what). Usually when a business model is designed to generate recurring income they will make you pay through the teeth if you want to break that stream of income off from them. Also, as their main customer base is casinos, there is probably concern about some evil techie (like myself) getting their hands on it and either reverse engineering it and competing with them or cracking their "shuffle" algorithm. This would allow someone to compromise the integrity of a casino's poker room, which would ultimately result in the removal of the devices, and loss of business. -- JL
