Played over @ the HardRock in Hollywood today and they had new Copag's instead of the bridge 1546's.

Looked a lot like the Casino exports but with a Border and a Double hard Rock Logo.

What I didn't like was the placement of the numbers on the edge of the cards. They seemed  Large not Jumbo index but they where not all plaeced in the same location.

On 1-9 the numbers where lower then the PIPs about 5/8 in from the edge of the cards and on 10 - K they where Higher then the PIPs about 1/8 in from the edge.

In some instances you could almost tell whether or not people had paint by the way they where pulling their cards!   very strange.

I bought some old stock Skyway Park Bowl Kems that have a similar index.  I believe it's called a blackjack index.

All the face cards have the index in the usual position.  All the other cards vary the position of the index based on the value of the card.  For 10s the index is in the same (usual) position as for the face cards.  As the value decreases, the index moves lower down from the top.

Which has made me wonder: is there a reason for this type of index?

My understanding is that it's a traditional layout for blackjack.  It's for card readers on the table (used to see if a dealer has blackjack without looking at the cards) so that if it's a ten it will be seen in the reader, but other numbers aren't in that location.  Why it would be on plastic cards used for poker is beyond me.

Not sure what you mean by that. Can anyone get a picture of the cards (or similar ones) because I really want to see these. They sounded so strange.

Well June 1st they are moving the poker room and adding blackjack but I doubt they will be using plastic bridge sized card for that

If you have a card worth 10 in blackjack (10, Jack, Queen, King) it will read in the scanner that just looks at a corner of a card.  If it's anything else, the pip is in a different location, and won't show when you put the corner of the card in a reader.  The blackjack dealer checks the down card on one of these readers if they have an Ace showing, so that people don't go through the whole round just to see if the dealer has a blackjack anyway.
