Got a set of Dal Negro Freedom Star acetates & a set of Modiano Cristallo acetates. I really like the feel & shuffle of the DNs better than the Mods, but the DNs crack too easily. I did a "torture test" with the jokers of each set first. If you take the cards on edge & smack them on a solid surface, the DNs shatter like glass! I could not get the Mods to crack. I've been showing others how easily the DNs shatter & they are amazed. I should have sent them back, but I've been having too much fun demonstrating. I'm going to order more Modiano acetates & hope they are not prone to bowing like some previous Modianos (BlackJacks) that I've owned.

Whew, that's bad news! A good information for me though, since I'm about to (well, or was about to) order two DN acetate sets for about 60$. Although smacking a card should happen rarely (maybe AA vs 72o bad beat ;-), it can also happen when some cards fall on a hard surface like the floor without a carpet. May you take a picture after "smacking" them? And how much force did you apply (if it COULD be measured some way...).

I'd not seen those before.  Nice backs and color, I like em.  Too bad about the cracked card.  You really should let the vendor replace them.

and welcome to the forum BTW

Good news on that end...the Cristallo styled Modiano's (which include the actetate jumbo index) are not prone to bowing.

It would be nice if Trident stocked the 2-pip standard index form of the Modiano acetate cards.  Heck, it would be nice if Trident stocked any of the 2-pip standard index cards that Modiano makes.

Does anyone here have both the Kems and the Modiano Acetates?  How do they compare in terms of feel?

One of these days, I will get a setup of standard index (poker size; Modiano doesn't make bridge sized acetate cards) Modiano Platinum Acetates.  Is there anyone who advertises for HPT who sells these?  I know you can easily find them with a Google search, but it would be nice to be able to link to a site with them here.

Jeff from Caragails does:

He does not offer a bonus code though.

Well I had a DN acetate crack when I was pitching cards for practice. It hit a chipstack and cracked. Cards hitting chipstacks is very common.

yup, I really didn't smack them very hard. They are very flexible yet shatter easily. I really wanted to like these cards, but for the money I'll pass!

My DN Acetates have cracked also, after only 5 or 6 hours of play.  A player got made about the result of his hand, slammed his cards down, and chipped off the corner of the one card.  I'm done with Dal Negro.

Okay, so this rules out DN Acetates, but are the Modianos worth it?  I've been thinking about getting some for a while now, so what's a junkie to do to get a fix?

I realize I'm a bit biased since I sell them Smiley  but seriously, I put these into play at a buddies tourney the other night and everyone loved them (Modiano Reg Index Acetates).  They have that nice bright Modiano look, yet have a bit of a softer, more flexible feel than a PVC Modiano card.  And supposedly, being acetate, they should hold up much longer than the PVCs.  I also tried to crack one by playing different "throw cards at the wall as hard as you can" games with my daughter and they all held up.

I believe Nutn will be posting a review soon too, so he should have some info on his experiences.

Thanks Jeff.  We've done business before.  I think, with the exception of my Gemacos (ugh) and first set of Copags, all my cards have come from you.  I'll wait for Nut'n's review, but I'll probably be hitting you up for some soon.  Cheers

so far, Modiano Cristallo acetates are great--can't crack them at all, & feel/shuffle great--BTW, even the NTP BlakJacks don't crack as easily as the DNs! The NTPs will crack, but the DNs shatter!

Too bad about the DN's.  I really like the backs of the Freedom Stars, and was just about to buy a set.  But, I just can't justify the cost until they iron out the issues with these cards.
