The Tournament Director already has a function to lock players in their seat.  I lock myself into a seat near the computer so I don't have to be on the other side of the room whenever a player is busted out.

I let The Tournament Director do everything for me.  It seats the players at random tells you who to move and where when someone busts out.  Don't know what I'd do without it 

That was certainly my plan in the 3 table tourney that I ran last night. trouble is that I have designated dealers since many of the players were new, and TTD chose one of the dealers to move as soon as the second person busted out. As the night went on, manually messing with the seating proved too difficult, so I just randomly worked it. No one complained.

I'll be asking the writer of TTD to add a function to fix dealers at tables and to move other people in preference.

when moving one player, i always try to move players to the same position they were in on the previous table - in relation to the button. for example if i have to fill a seat on one table that's at the cutoff, i'll pull someone from the cutoff on the other table. drawing cards is what i do when i move an entire table.

At my home game we always move the last person to have dealt from the larger table and then we place them at the cutoff at the new table.  Regardless of where the busted player was sitting.  So, as soon as table 1 loses a player, we stop play at that table and wait for table 2 to finish their current hand.  Then the person at table 2 that just finished dealing moves.
