I chose to fold here, as I thought I was just under my odds to call, and there was a flush draw, I would have made it, but was my fold correct, odds wise at least ?

Thanks

Obvious fold and it's not close.  Don't worry about the result; you certainly played the hand well.

You had four outs.  No business calling.  Doesn't matter what you ended up with.

I know that you've mentioned before that you weren't really that fond of the "math" aspect of poker but this is a pretty straightforward example of not having proper pot odds to call. This isn't even really as good as a gutshot straight draw because the Js is not a safe card in case someone is on a Spade draw. Then even if a non-Spade Jack peels off on the Turn, there should be very little if any implied odds (despite the bad calls in the hand history) with four to a straight on board and anyone still around is likely chopping to cut down the effective pot odds even more. AND if the other player has AsXs then you are at best chopping but he is on a freeroll to the river with a Spade redraw to take the whole pot. WAY better places to get your money in than this hand.

This is an area I'm really focussed on trying to improve on now, its probably the biggest weakness I have, besides periods of lack of emotional control.

I'm fearful of all math, as its been a very long time since I felt I was good at any of it, but I'm keen to get this milestone done to step my game up a bit more.
