how did I handle this, too cautious ?

In one of tonights Sit-N-Go's I was fortunate enough to flop a straight, but it was the lower end, I didn't want to jam only to find that someone had woke up with KQ and a big grin on there face as I moved all-in.

My play was to check and to see the action from the other players, and then act, as at least one of them is very likely to bet or raise after my check, it gave me a change to assess if anyone had the KQ, or maybe a draw to it.

In this case, I felt no one had the KQ, so I pushed to get the max value, risky as it could have passed round and I could have been staring at a Q on the turn, but it felt right at the time.

Any thoughts on what I did here, please ?

You flopped a straight. I don't like giving a free card to a super draw heavy board. Very easy for two pair, four card straight, flush draw to catch up to you. I also don't see how you were able to discern that nobody had KQ. If someone bet weak then they could be slowplaying the nuts especially if they have the Diamond redraw. If someone bets strong they could be making a semi-bluff with the nut flush draw possibly with a straight draw to go with it.

I really like your play here.  First off, the fact that these players are high blind limping four handed shows that they are weak players, as does the donk bet on the flop.  Shoving over the donk bet is good, as the donk bettor has a good chance to call with trash (as he did) and you lose much by giving a free or cheap turn, since so many cards could hit to hurt your hand (after all, you can't know that dude has only four outs.)

Its hard to say, sometimes I just know. The only thing I can really credit such feelings to is my experience, I've played in the same games against the same sort of players virtually everyday for around 4 months, so I think when I'm focussed I can have a good feel of my table, and how my opponets will play in certain spots.

Although your perfectly right someone could slow play KQ, it just didn't feel like it here, against other players or in another game I may have got a totally different feeling or had no idea at all, but here I felt there wasn't a KQ out there and my reads are right often enough in these games that I tend to back them up with my chips.

I would totally disregard KQ, but not because I'd be sure no one had it.  You started the hand with 13 bbs and are far behind the third place player.  You obviously are not going to fold a flopped straight here (at least on the flop), so, as is usually the case in poker, you're much better off shoving than calling.  In fact, check-calling here would be horribly weak.  Don't play the donk-bettor's game and call or donk bet yourself.  Instead, just shove strong hands if you know you're going the whole way anyway.  Shoving actually protects you better than anything else as a general rule, even though it may feel counter intuitive.
