positon decisions for NL cash games

Does anyone have any relative position advise they could share with me on seating positions for NL cash games.

I've just arrived at a new table, and chose to sit on the immediate left on the big stack, I've bought in for the max, and he has around $3 more then me. I sat here, so he's mostly going to act in front of me (I think), that way I know I can push my hands further without going bust on a single hand if he folds... any thoughts ? I have no notes on him to suggest whether he's aggressive or not at this point.

sat down and watched whilst I waited for the blind.

Not having much luck in these cash games, been waiting 3 hours for a hand. I crazy guy losess half is stack on a bluff with T9s, and goes all in next hand, I find 99, highest hand I've had in 3 hours and call, he shows AT and flops a T... might be back in the tournaments tommorow lol
