I've just got railed in 3rd, in my second tournament of the day, by a complete and utter idiot making trips on the river, this really pissed me off, as an equally un-skilled idiot did the same thing in the game before, only this time I was railed, glad to have made some money, but this was my victory.

I was rather mad!

The strange thing, was as soon as he pushed, set popped straight into my head, but I had to call, I just expected him to have made it on the flop, not on the river.

I'm not sure I agree with your assessment here.  I have to come back to this later and gather my thoughts on it, but it looks more like your standard Online Is Rigged kind of x-outer hand that hit and put you to the test on the flop, then drew out on the river.  This one's quite different than the doof who held on to those 4s beyond all hope of reasonable expectations.

Look at it this way: if he hadn't bet out like that on the flop, you certainly would put a substantial amount on it, and he would've likely called.  What would you then have done on that turn?

Actually I was thinking about something similar

for instance if he knew on the flop I had aces or kings, jamming would give him 2 cards to hit is trips or jack for two pair and maximum implied odds, as I'm not dropping kings or aces here. I've actually read up on a similar play recently, but I wouldn't credit my opponent with such thinking.

The hand still pissed me off, to lose two major hands to trips on the river in the same day hurts, regardless of how the betting was done.

I certainly don't want to deny you your pissedoffedness; I'd feel the same way, under the circumstances (which happen to me far more than I deserve lately).  I would just be careful to not take the wrong lesson from this hand (versus the other one with that silly person).  Not that this person didn't take a big risk (and I really don't think he put you on KK or AA, unless he's just the type that hates money); I think it just wound up being one of those crazy things that happen in poker.

The  hand was unique, I may actually fold kings in this spot to another player, it was just so obvious he was making a move.

He only played about 4 hands in the entire tournament, got lucky with queens on the first hand to bust two people and sat out, until 4 handed, then made the odd play, with me taking the lead and battling at both of them once we became 3 handed it was clear he had just had enough and cracked, perfect result on the flop for me, I could put money on being ahead and was very happy for the business, just ran unlucky.

Yeah, sounds likely that.

I know this is might sound trite but ask yourself this: Do you WANT Villain to call off his stack with a five outer or not? Of course you do. You are way ahead and did everything right. You need to be congratulating yourself on getting someone to pour their money into a pot when they were drawing thin. Yeah it sucks to get drawn out but that is results oriented thinking and if you want to go pro you'd better concentrate on making the right decisions and not worrying about the results.

No your right. I wasn't being results orientated, though it may read like that here, I just needed a little rant for a moment. Despite loosing several crucial pots yesterday in similar circumstances, I was very pleased with every decision I had made.

The only hand I have any doubts about was my AQ push (in another thread), otherwise I think I played as best as I could in every game, which win or lose is the best I can hope for, as I can only control my decisions.

Thanks for all the feedback and comments.
