Played a local tourrnament last night. When we were down to 3 players, I was the short stack and had been card dead for a while. I had an M of about 7 and an effective M around 2,33.

The button limps in, the SB makes a standard raise (as he does very often) to 3xBB. I'm in the big blind. when I see that I have JcKd, I decide that it's now or never and shove in all my chips. The button folds and the SB calls and shows 8c8s. I get a J on the river and all but cripples the SB.

On the very next hand, the guy I'd just played against, raises all in with about half as many chips as I'd had the hand before. I look down at 8c8s and decides to call. He shows JcKd. We each held the exact same cards as the other had the very hand before. This time I get an 8 on the flop and eliminate him in 3rd place.

It must be very rare to play the exact same two hands twice in a row and I know that I was fortunate to win both. Went on to win a nice $140 for first place.

We had a game about 4 months ago almost the same thing happened. There were still several people left in the game, short stack pushed all in preflop, and one of the other guys calls for just over half his stack. Short stack turns over QQ, and the caller turns over KK. Queens hit trips on the flop to win. Very next hand the new short stack, the guy that had just called and lost, pushes all in. The short stack from the last hand calls. They had the same hands from  the previous hand. Same guy with queens, same guy with kings. This time the King held up and they were almost back to square one.

A friend of mine about two weeks ago had pocket aces 3 hands in a row. Blinds were high, down to 4 players, she won all 3 hands, knocked out a total of two players and ended up winning 1st ($50 buck  Grin)

plesner, you said this was a local tournament, but not that it was at a casino...

Just wondering if the same deck was used?

If not, wow -- freaky!

If not, your dealer needs to wash the deck...  Wink

Here we go.

The chances of you getting the same hand in the next hand as you had in THIS hand:

1 in 1,326 or 0.075414% (there are 1,326 unique starting hands in Hold'em)

The changes of you AND another player both getting the same hand next hand as you had THIS hand:

1 in 1,326 * 1 in 1,225 or 1 in 1,624,350 or 0.000061563% (given that you got your two cards, there are 1,225 unique hands your opponent can hold)

Or, Wedge would say: 50/50

I don't know anything about odds or what not, but I'm going to have to agree with WR on this one (50/50). You either get it or you don't.

When I first started reading I thought that each of you repeatedly got the same hole cards for two hands which would be remarkable...but you got each OTHER's hole cards the second hand...pfffft! ...happens ALL the time!

...kidding. Freaky. Down to the same suits too.

Reminds me of that WPT episode where Scotty Nguyen goes up against Kc8c three hands in a row.

"In Mississippi, you’ll hear folks talk of famous battles, like the Battle of Vicksburg. In this tournament, an uncanny series of hands could’ve been called the Battle of K8. On three consecutive hands, Scotty Nguyen had all his chips in versus an opponent’s K8 of clubs. The first time he held QJo and flopped a jack for the win. On the second hand, he held 89s but never improved. Finally, on the last skirmish in the Battle of K8, Nguyen held A5. Negreanu, beside himself with the uncanny series of hands, called with the K8 of clubs and flopped top-two pair for the win. The Battle of K8 busted Nguyen in fourth place for $346,682."

I read the original post wrong.  So, here are the odds of swapping hole cards for the following hand:

1 in 1,326 or 0.075414% (there are 1,326 unique starting hands in Hold'em)

The changes of you AND another player both getting the same hand next hand as you had THIS hand:

1 in 1,326 * 1 in 1,225 or 1 in 1,624,350 or 0.000061563% (given that you got your two cards, there are 1,225 unique hands your opponent can hold)
