Buy-in was 50 dollars with $50 re-buys/add-ons allowed until the end of level 3.  I followed HPT's T1000 tournament structure plus blinds.  Had my poker table setup, used the poker ace, and the tournament went well.  Finished in under 4 hours and guess who won?  ME!!!

My buddies' pockets are about 700 bucks lighter, and mine are well, heavier...........

Following alot of recommendations on this site, the tourney was a blast and my friends enjoyed it.

Thanks HPT!!!

Congrats.

Speaking from experience, don't get too cocky.  Winning your first tournament (and then the second one) can do a lot to artificially inflate your ego Smiley

Congrats, the info on here improved my understanding of how tournaments work by an immense magnitude

Always nice to win your first. Each time I try something new with poker, either a new format, new game, larger event, etc I always like to win that bit more, gives me that extra bit of pleasure knowing that I won my first.

Depending on the makeup of your group, it can also make people stop coming to your game.

I've felt that flip side too.

I very rarely get a home tournament game now, as everyone I would play with before are happy to cheat or argue about the rules, and have an anything goes policy, which I refuse to accept now I have seen the light.

Good news is my room mate as developed a good understanding of the game, and we get some good heads-up sessions in now and then, which is far more fun then having to go over the rules twenty times to some idiot who wants it is way all the time.

Hahahaha, too late.

A couple of the players were coworkers so the next day I printed out a few color copies of the picture of my final chip stack with the cash laid out in front of the chip stack.  I posted the pictures in the cubicles of my coworkers and told them that its good to set goals and aspire to great things  Smiley
