Hi guys,

another simple question, I would like your input on please:

Whilst reading a little on positions I came across the following sentence quoted bellow:

"When you are the player who must open the betting round, your options are to bet or to check."

does this mean, as the player under the gun, you are not allowed to fold in the opening betting round, or is folding simply not included as an option ?

cheers xxx

You can fold at any time...

I think the point of what you read is that it would be silly to fold when you can check for free...

That was my feeling, but thought I'll ask the pro's just in case.

Trying to get some home tournaments organized for the first time, so I want all the bases covered.

No offense lucky, but your asking some of the very basic questions. I recommend printing out Roberts Rules to the left and providing them for your guests. At least the basics anyways.

I don't recommend having your guests read them...  They are obtuse and abstract.

I recommend that *you* read them and keep them handing, ear-mark rules that are likely to come up from time to time.  *You* as the TD need to be ready to make a ruling based on RR...so *you* need to know them.

Ask all the basic questions you want.  That's what these forums are for...

I've read so much I'm ending up confusing myself.... what I've learnt so far is worlds apart from the ad-hoc sh%tty games we've had in the past.

What I've do so far his:

create, print and hang A3 posters covering:

 1. chip colours
 2. colour up procedures
 3. house rules
 4. a selection of the roberts rules that we are most likely to need to reference (2 pages of bullet points), I don't own a printer, so the cost to print the lot would be a bit prohibitive,
 5. a T1000 blind schedual

I've also purchased a db2 blind timer, but that hasn't arrived yet.

As always thanks for the input.

sounds like a good plan, good luck and let us know how the tourneys turn out.  Hell, I'm still trying to figure stuff out, hopefully your not a slow learner as well.

WR, I wasn't meaning not to ask questions, but that maybe some of the more basic questions could be answered by reading RR. Same was pointed out to me and for the most part it worked. I would then come here for confirmation of some the simple stuff I didn't quite grasp........like damn chip progression........but thats another thread, or 5.

Later,

Good luck LuckyS

You're learning a valuable lesson.  When TDs say, "It's only a home game, we don't have to be rule nazis," they aren't doing their players any favors.  Don't make the same mistake they made - learn the rules and make sure they are followed.  It sounds like you are on your way.

Just had what I would call my second tournament, only 4 players instead of 7 this time, but I am very very pleased to say I won!

was doing pretty crap at first, tried too hard to try and work my friend out, and lost concentration paid a token re-buy as it was a friendly game but me and my friend had a side bet to see who would last longer, anyways after that I really got my game face on, I used everything I knew, and had to really, my friend is really catching up to me, he wups my arse on basic heads up games for fun, but as he says I win when it counts.

It was a really great game, I need to have a rest tommorow and then start to look at where I can improve again.
